Talledega?.... 1st time? If so come a day early to take in the Hall of Fame... Talladega is about 2 hours South of me & 1 hour South of Alan-Moparal.
How are you traveling? If you drive down I65 you will be 20-minutes from me & about the same to Alan's at one point.  If we can work it out I can meet you along the way or gather at mine or Alan's place.
You might want to swing by my town & take in the Space Museum

Most say the balance with 10" drums is better,... if you were upgrading the fronts & went with an adjustable proportioning valve that you could tune the system to take advantage of the bigger 11" rears I could see an advantage.

Even with the 10" drums and 7/8" bore wheel cylinders I still have to crank up my adjustable proportioning valve all the way to keep the rears from locking too soon.

I really wonder what Chysler was thinking.  I remember seeing some old road tests of the new 71 Challenger.  During the braking test, the car would do a 180.

Don't let these guys scare you, get the 11.75 disc up front and the 11" drums in back.  Nothing looks better than that huge finned drum.  I hate the look of those puny 10" smooth drums.  Looks like a ricer.

One panic stop and you will be scared too.

I have 11" brakes on the back of my Challenger. The big finned drums keep them from warping too. My rear tires used to lock up too till I changed my rear shoes and master cylinder. Since then it doesn't happen anymore even during panic stops.

No is advocating doing anything dangerous.  You can definitely get the 11" rear drums to work properly.  People are even adding discs to the rear.  Just adjust the proportioning and you'll be fine.

Nothing beats having those huge 11" finned drums (unless you want to drop $600-$800 for rear discs).

I'm with Katfish on this one. !0 inch drums look really small with the bigger wheels. If
11 inch drums are so dangerous and might cause a spinout in a panic stop, then I guess
the rear disc brake conversions should be illegal!! Just like any modifications from stock,
time spent dialing in the change will make it better in the long run. I think the big dollar
rear disc conversions are a total waste of money for some of the same reasons that are
being thrown out there against the 11 inch drums. Weight being the only issue and for
most of us, that don't mean much. How many are really putting disc brakes on the rear
for the performance gain?? Its looks,... and quite frankly, 11 inch drums look better than 10's.   :2cents:  Jeff

Yup, outer diameter is great for aftermarket rims. And of course that added stopping power doesn't hurt, as long as you figure out the proportioning!  ;D

The only ones I know of with an 11" diameter have a 2" or 2.5" width...
