ok, 323 gears, 14 inch wheels, 225/70/14 tires, cruising down the highway at about 70 mph. i will be driving it daily so it will still need to be able to drive every day reliably.

3:55's 28" tire 65mph is 2800rpm ..... mopar .528 cam with 1.5 rockers if your running flat tops unnotched.. .528 lift is before lash setting drew! cam is .028I/.032E lash

If you do 3.23's go with a 26" tire.... about 2700rpm doing 65mph 2900rpm doing 70mph

Basic Operating RPM Range: 2,800-7,000

Why on earth do you want 500hp with those tires?  :bigsmile:  That's asking for a guardrail view at 70...lol. I used to spin those tires with 3.23s with a sprayed 340 making about 450hp in 3rd gear. The tires are not tall. Closer to 25", so at 70, with 3.23s, you're looking at about 3100rpm cruise. IMO, the best choice for you use wont make 500 hp with that package, but will be dead reliable for a very long time with no maintenance and make close to 500. More important, they will make serious torque. Basically something in the 235-240°@.050 range is what I'd go with. You aren't building anything huge. In fact, with those heads and valve shrouding, a larger cam simply wont make much more power. Because of that I would notch the bores too. I'd set static compression at 10.5:1 with a .030 quench and run the Comp XE284H hydraulic. You could go faster rate of lift, you could go with more lift. I dont think it will help much and will cause more risk of flattening due to idle time and heavy springs. That's how I'd build. I'd really recommend a 15" wheel and wider tires too...

i want to keep my stock 14 inch wheels.

Tire selection is gonna suck with 14' wheels .. put 15" rims  in the save up section and sell the 14" one to offset the cost some  :2cents:

if i go with 15's i will end up putting the 14's away for later. they are the factory rims so i would want to keep them around.

Yeah, I have street driven them for years, including runnning snow tires on my 440-6 car. But in terms of putting power down, they are hard to run with. I'm swapping gears with a frined because we didnt know he was running the 14" package and the gears are just too much with the little tires...lol.

i would like to upgrade, but like i said, money is tight and this whole thing is going to be a budget build. That is why i am looking for trading parts and all. one day i will make the big bucks and be able to buy parts and stuff at will.
