Paint codes
« on: April 10, 2009 - 11:07:38 PM »
A source I found on the net lists two reds that were supossedly available for the 1970 Cudas:  Tor-Red  EV2 and Rallye Red FE5.  Is this accurate and if it is which of the two reds is the darker red?   :clueless:
1970 Plymouth 'Cuda.  Matching numbers 440 U Code, 4 speed pistol grip, Rallye dash, AM 8 Track, Shaker hood, 15 inch rallye wheels, Dana 60 4.10, Super Track Pak.  One of 134 - 440 "U" coupes codes built in 1970 and one of 100 - 440 Super Track Paks built in 1970.

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

EV2 is a redish orange with metal flake. Dodge called it Hemi Orange. FE5 is a true red, it is darker than EV2.

To see examples of both colors, go here;

& click on the EV2 & FE5 buttons.

Thanks Alaskan :thumbsup:  Rallye red it is if I decide to go with red.  Arguing with myself between red and black.    :dunno:

I know there are a ton of them but FE5 red is one of my favorite colors. It is a very intense red with lots of pop. I especially like it with a white contrast like billboards or interiors/tops.
Short story. The car in my avatar was my sisters daily driver when she worked at a flower store back in the mid 80's. The lady that owned the business had a red corvette and when they were parked beside each other it was clear which color was better looking. Well the lady hated my sisters 'Cuda because of that and rode my sister hard until she finally quit. When she was leaving she told the lady it was not her fault that her 'Cuda made the ladies 'vette look hot pink   :smilielol:

bb71 thanks for sharing.  Good story.  Red has always been my favorite color, especially on cars.  However, my original Cuda was triple black and my plan all along has been to make my project Cuda triple black as well.  However, progress is slow and it gives me too much time to think as well as look at cars on this web site.  After looking at several black Cudas on this website and others, while they look good and classy they just don't "pop" as you said. After seeing all the lime green, purple, yellow, r ed and other vibrant colors on cc.com, I'm thinking that I want to go with a "loud" 70's color versus the black classy look, so I'm leaning towards the red.  Maybe I should run a pole.  :rofl:   :feedback:

My Challenger is an original FE-5 car,  I like it a lot, it's almost a high impact color when done in the base clear it looks really classy.

 the only thing about red is the price, the more red it is the more it cost and FE-5 is as red as they come. not a big deal in the total cost of a nice paint job, but when I saw the bill from PPG I thought there was a mistake.
