I used Goody's tip to use an 80's 5th Avenue trunk latch as a hood latch. The only thing was, I couldn't figure out how I wanted to activate the release. Here's what I did...
Grabbed a junkyard cable-activated hood release.
Cut of the cable and ground off the crimp area. Drilled and tapped the end of with a 6-32 thread.
Cut off the back bracing on the housing and sanded flat.
Mounted a momentary pushbutton in the housing to trip the latch.
Fabbed a tab to mount to the end of the cable handle and "bump" the momentary switch when pulled.
Assembled with a small spring to give it the right "feel" when pulled.
Still need to paint the housing, but it looks good so far...
