I have the same ugly issue with the quarter window lip area. Do you know what your body guys did to fix it? Did they section and reweld this?
Also, how about the area at the deck lid filler/dutchman seam. The AMD is a good 3/16" proud/high of the dutchman near the window and I'll have to cut the quarter panel folded lip where it goes into the window channel to bring this down. Any of these issues with yours?
Finally, is there any chance you could put a small straightedge across the dutchman panel seam to the quarter on both the AMD and Goodmark sides and post pictures of both? My AMD panels slope off greatly from the quarter/dutchman seam where as the factory originals where flat from the dutchman to the top of the quarter. I wanted to weld these seams solid, but the way they slope it would be impossible to hide the seam because there is a definite change in the panel shape/slope at the seam.
At the qtr window, with the door open, there is buckling at the leading edge of the qtr on both AMD and Gdmk. The body shop obviously moved the metal, and there were not any weld seams I could feel behind the outer surfaces, so the qtrs were not cut.
At the dutchman seam, the Gdmk fit well, but the AMD was forced down such that the trunk lid is "proud" and sighting down the qtr along the trunk opening the Gdmk has a nice gentle convex arc, but the AMD is flat/concave. This is one of my B#$^%&$^ about the fitting the shop did...its so obvious that the trunk lid stands proud on the AMD side. Maybe this was the shops way of working around the dutchman fit problem. They attached the dutchman to the qtrs with tack welds on the underside vertical flange, then welded the seam solid from above and ground into the weld to simulate a seam. Looks good from the outside.
The slope off of the qtrs as measured at the middle of the seam with dutchman... I did not realize it should be flat across. Guess I should have looked at my OEM qtrs, but I never did. The AMD side clears the straight edge by just shy of 5/16. On the Gdmk side the clearance is just over 3/8. So the Gdmk is worse. Since I'm uneducated in the OEM shape, I thought it all looked great.
Also on the AMD side the fit to the tail light panel is not correct, as if the qtr is a little short. The shop did a crap job to cover up the error. I ground off a good 1/4 inch thick bondo. Then trimmed the tail light assy stud supports, so now fits a little better and no mass of bondo.
Overall in my opinion, on my car, I have to say the Gdmk qtr fit better than the AMD. I realize everyone talks up AMD but this is my observation. Look at the hole at back of AMD qtr next to trunk opening. This hole is for trim attachment, but its HUGE!
The body shop was so disgusted with the BAD fit of the AMD rear bumper to the car, and bumper did not even fit AMD bumper brackets without bending the brackets. Shop said no more AMD.
Here's a couple of pics. Let me know if you need more.
