Great relief to hear you had no issues with the Goodmark magnum hood. I will keep my fingers crossed that mine will fit ok. Great thread btw.

I'm about ready to do my quarter panels and I'll make sure to take lots of pics and post what I find.....

Here are a few pictures of my AMD issues that I asked about. I sent AMD three ZIP files of pictures of the trouble areas asking if they re-tooled the quarters and they haven't. They sent them to their "installation" shop they use and they sort of sent me a sharp sounding reply saying I just wasn't using enough clamps and its a big floppy piece of metal so try harder.

Short story is the quarters are too short from the door strike to the rear panel and the area at the quarter window is way off, the dutchman seam is the wrong height and is not flat like the original. The rear back of the quarter where the trim mounts is so far off on the angle that I'm not sure if you bend it to fit will it make the overall fit worse. If you clamp the quarter at the rocker tight, then the top by the quarter window sticks out so far and high. If you try to make that fit, then the body line will not pull in tight enough to the door strike area.

I'm trying to make these work, but I may get Goodmark quarters and deal with their issues instead.

I'm glad AMD has a lot of great products which I'm using in many areas, but these aren't one of them in my opinion. Any one got hands on experience with these issues? I've had these things on and off so many times thinking it must just be fitment, but no help.

Wes

both AMD and goodmark panels have their own issues and these issues will vary panel to panel. If your panel fitment is that bad, I would request another panel. But that is me. clamps will not fix a stamped radius issue at the door jamb and on top of the panel going upto the deck filler.  it appears to me it looks like it wasnt stamped long or hard enough. IMO.

 :iagree:

you can only pull or push it one way, if you have to go back( try and bend it the other way), you weaken the integrity. but, if its what ya got to work with, it is possible to finesse it. just gonna take some time.

As Dave said both have issues. Maybe I do have a badly stamped piece. I'm not sure what I will do. Both of mine are AMD and I haven't started on the passenger side because I didn't want the body to flex too much (one at a time). Maybe I'll look at that new panel today and see what its like. The Goodmark does have issues at the gas cap and door edge as Phil noted originally, but they seem easier to fix. I'm rebuilding my trunk hinges to get the slop out of the pivots and then I'll set the deck lid to see how off the curve is.

Maybe this is why some of the big shops cut apart the new quarters and never touch the factory seems--using them as a skin.

Anyone else have the same problems? I need to decide if this is just a one time issue and get them to replace it or move on. Very frustrating....

Thanks, Wes

either way it is a tough decision. AMD has been the poster child of good parts, They are having their fare share of fitment issues now that everyone has plagued goodmark with, this is on a variety of parts.

From my experiance, you will have to work with all of the parts to some degree, whether they are AMD, Sherman or Goodmark.  The new panels are much better than the parts we used to have to deal with back in the 80 and 90's.

After looking at the pictures you have posted, it looks like the quarter panel is way underformed (Stamping die did not come down far enough to properly form the stamping) and the angles are entirely off.  This is especially evident in the rear of the quarter wher it is on the tail light panel.

A good body shop should be able to work with the parts and get good results.  If a professional body shop can't get good results, then the panel is defective and should be returned to the manufacturer for replacement.

We installed a Sherman quarter on our 70 challenger and the fit was really good.  We also did not see any issues around the gas cap like everyone is talking about.  Also, the Sherman quarter panels do not have the large hole in the rear.

I still think that AMD has very good panels and I do understand that sometimes a defective panel might be produced and accidentally shipped.

Thanks,

Sherman and Goodmark are one in the same. sherman is a partner in with goodmark.

Dave,

You are correct, the Sherman and Goodmark panels are one in the same.  Again, we didn't see any issues when installing the Sherman quarter panel on the Challenger.

Thanks,

I have not seen these issues with AMD or Sherman/Goodmark panels.  This is the first time I have seen or heard of any quarter panel issues with AMD.  I contacted AMD and they are supposed to be looking into this.

Thanks,

We have installed 3 set here at the dealer, I would prefer the goodmark over the AMD on these as they fell right on, the AMD seemed to be a little long which is an for the jamb and or tail panel. our issues were at the tail tail. AMD has a sharper body line than the Goodmark. But if you can block to a tape edge you'll be fine.

**REMEMBER** no 2 cars were built the same and these panels are reverse engineered and no two are alike. SO infitment is it really the panel in general or is it the car that was poorly with in reason assembled. When restoring everyone points to the panels not the car. because sometime these cars are over restored.
