71 Challenger grille colors (Totally Auto)
« on: April 12, 2009 - 07:03:12 PM »
Does anyone have a pic of a 71  Challenger grille with the dark argent color combo? I'm repainting mine and someone had already repainted it before which I know was not the right colors. Thanks

I was not aware they came with dark argent. All the ones I have seen are either unpainted black plastic or light argent like the base Challenger tail panel.

When I had called Totally Auto to order the paint, the woman who took my order ask what year the car was and she told me that that year (71) only came it dark argent. I had told her that light argent was on it now but she said if you want it correct, it would be dark argent so I ordered the dark. These guys are pro's so I had thought they can't be wrong. This is totally going to pi** me off if I was correct and have to resand all of my grille again. :pullinghair: :villagers: :swear:

Maybe I am wrong  :dunno:  As far as I know the only thing that has dark argent over light argent are the center caps on the wheels. 70 was light argent with polished rings and 71 was dark argent with brushed rings. There were of course variances here and there. I have never heard of a dark argent grill before. I know there are a few guys who have done superb 71 grill restorations, one of them will chime in eventually.

If your doing a 71 Challenger grille it has 3 colors. Dark Argent, Grille Siver and black.

Get the Dark Argent and Grille Silver from Totally Auto.

When I bought the car, the whole grille was light argent. What parts of the grille are dark, what part is the grille silver. I know the back part is black. Thanks

Yes. In he pics you can see the entire center is the grille silver with a black outline. Just above and below the center are also grille silver. The bulk is dark argent as well as dark argent on the headlight bezels

 :iagree:

instead of spending a ton, you can also use Alumablast..... for the silver. The Dark Argent is right on, i used it too.

I have never seen light argent anywhere on a 71. The grilles, center caps, and tailpanel were all dark argent unless the R/T was ordered. Then the grille and tailpanel would be black.

:iagree: No light argent on the 71. There is however plenty of the grille silver. Even on the tail pannels and black R/T grilles.
