Solvent based paints are about to expire. Water based to replace 8/09

Come this August water auto based paints will be replacing the current existing brands. Alot of shops are already using the newer type water based paints. I asked an estimator but he didn't know some of this below:

1. Will it have the same all weather resitance to what's being used now?
2. Easier or harder to work with?
3. Cost comparison? Higher or lower?
4. Will it fade quicker?
5. Should I stock up for the existing brand still available?

I am having the same thoughts , if you paint with water based paints at least you can repair it in the future , supposedly the water base paints are good quality & easy to work with , apparently you use the same clear over top .

It would be rather Ironic though if they discovered that after 5 years the paint all comes off the cars they use it on when it rains and creates massive water pollution.

That's a good point to go with the water bourne type. Remember when laquers were phased out? After that, alot of laquer cars around with cracking paint going un repaired. Mainly the Porsches.

I have not used the water based paints yet and not heard much about them at this time.  Some have told me that they are easy to work with.  Seems strange to me to go that way but guess it is because of airborne polutants.  sorry about the spelling just wanted to post.
