Kick Panels with Speakers?
« on: April 16, 2009 - 05:26:08 PM »
Does anyone make pre-molded speaker within kick panel sets? I know they make them for old Mustangs. Just wondering. If not, I will eventually make my own.

I imagine depth would be a problem?   :dunno:  I can't think there is much room behind the kick panel.

I am going to try my hand at modifying a stock black set of door panels because with the emergency brake foot pedal right there you really dont have the room to put a serious speaker in there. My door panels have holes in them anyway so no great loss.

You can get almost an inch of extra clearance from the e-brake by using a longer bolt & add spacers at the upper most rear mount.
Another issue is the limited area for the speaker magnet to recess take some measurements before purchase.

Yeah its the magnet that messes up the works. I dont know that you can get any high end speaker in there without a ton of spacing. Now maybe with neodymium magnets it can be done. I know Boston Acoustics is using them on a few of their component sets but I dont know of any top shelf car audio speakers using them yet. Been out of the car stereo game for a while though so there might be more shallow fitting systems than I know of.

I guess I should clarify. If you are running speakers off the head unit then it should all fit fairly well as should a lot of 5 1/4's. When you run multiple amps and beefy 6.5" speakers then you start to run into depth issues.
