Im Finally getting started!!
« on: April 19, 2009 - 11:05:33 PM »
Hey everyone, you might remember me from when i first registered on the website. i haven't been on sense because well i just haven't had the funds to start on the project yet. Well i've recently decided to start on the car being i have some money now , just to refresh everyone i have a 71' challenger with the original 318 nothing to crazy but it is an original hemi orange car so i naturually liked that being im keeping it completly stock. There is absolutly no places that sell mopar parts around me so if anyone has the names of some good mopar restoration websites it would be much appreciated

It really is. i almost felt bad when buying the car because i bought it for next to nothing. I really don't think the previous owner had any idea about what he had. :clueless: We'll me and my uncle who own's a body shop are going to start on the body itself becuase it has some rust issues. While were doing that i want to order all new bumpers, emblems and etc. it originally came with a luggage rack so i'd like to find one. The wiring in the car is a mess  :banghead: so id like to order an all new wiring harness for the car. The list goes on an on but those are a few things id like to order off hand  :naughty: thanks.

Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

Looks like a great starting point.   There's several magazine articles and ideas on this forum to make a 318 run like a champ.   My 74 challenger came with the 318 also, I'm swapping over to a 360 for a little more cubic inches and more torque.   For some extra $$ you can change a 360 to a stroker with even more torque.   Best of luck, and keep it out of the ditches ;D

Try visiting www.moparts.com. On the website is a huge list of Mopar related sites that have everything from upholstery to wiring to engine, performance and body parts. It's a great site to use as a starting point. They also have a good tech section as well as this site. As this is the best Cuda & Challenger site bar none!! Welcome aboard mate!!

You have probably heard of Year One. They sell the hard to get items. A little pricey but many a time it's worth it.

Most of the usual replacement parts like brakes, water pumps, suspension components and such are still available at the auto parts store.

What is your plan for the project?  Full on body and paint or a minor upgrade from here?

Another thing dont feel bad on what you gave for your car.  Sometimes deals are out there and you get a real good deal.  Your welcome and tell Dave you are a member here and he is a real good Guy to deal with.  I have delt with him and got a lot of sheet metal from him for my car.

Looking forward to seeing your progress.  My 71 is also a 318 car but was gold metallic.  I have added a ralley hood and dual exhaust rear valance.  I have the original 318 or a 340 to put in it.  It is a column shift car so not sure which way I will go yet.  I wish mine still had the body side molding like yours, I know it isn't popular but I like the moulding for some reason.

It's just not shifting right :clueless:

I have one more question. The side body molding, is it supose to be the same color as the rest of the car or is it supposed to be black? :dunno:
