    the comment about the '426' style refers to the spark plug tubes being used and exposed plug wires instead of the cover that goes over the wires on a stock 354/392..........and the orig covers say Firepower on them so thats why the 426 style comment....

    anyway....why do it?....because you can and you would be one of ? who did......dare to be diff...thats what makes the world go round at times........

    No offense taken! The 5.7 is a sweet running engine though, and my son is driving the car on special occasions (prom, winter ball, etc) and these kids nowadays can't deal with a car that doesn't have power steering and brakes. I couldn't run the power steering with the 392!

    how well does it run with a carb,compared to the factory injection?(assuming of course you've driven a new hemi car)

    I couldn't say, as I haven't driven a factory 5.7 in anything but a Durango and that's not a very good comparison to the Cuda. Also, I put a 6.1 SRT Hemi cam in the 5.7 before I put it in the car. I will say though that seat of the pants feel says it runs every bit as good as the 392 did and the 392 had 10.2 compression and a .510 lift hydraulic cam in it.

    Bah.  My first 2 cars were manual steering, manual brake cars.  The only car I've owned that had power steering was the Fury wagon, and that car definatly needed it. :lol:  I'm only 23.

    Damn kids today...  *waves cane around and grumbles under breath*

    Bigger intake valves (2.11) and a little pocket porting was all. It also has a Hot Heads Intake and Holley 750 on it. I would estimate the engine putting out about 400 horses or thereabouts.

    I'm a little late here but...
    Waaay back when I swapped a 354 into a 64 Dodge Polara. That one was relatively easy. fab some mounts, used a smallblock 4 speed, retained power steering. Did have to modify bellhousing bolts, basically make the bolts also locating dowels, at least that is my memory from 35 years ago.
    I'm in the planning stages of putting a 392(genI) into a 66 Dodge Dart(I had in mind to fab a long tube crossram intake manifold but now that I look more closely the hood clearance is like, almost non-existant, so that's on the back burner for now).  Got the motor, got the car, got a challenge ahead of me got a limited budget too. Virtually anything can be done if you try hard enough. Its wise though, to assess the exact fitment problems you're going to encounter. Ex: to me, steering is the most important hurdle. In the 64 it was no problem, the Dart it most definitley IS a problem. (I don't know about your Cuda) The choice is between a rack and pinion conversion, which I'm a little leery of based on what I've read about bumpsteer(not to mention if I screw it up it could be extremely dangerous). The alternative is engine setback which is safer for sure but a lot of work because once you do something then something else needs done too, where does it end, you hit the "might as wells"?
    Anyway, if the OP is still wanting to do his similar swap maybe we could trade notes and thoughts.

    I know i am new to the site but once i seen old HEMI i couldnt hemp myself to post. To me it seems everyone has a 426, or even a 528 hemi and now the new hemi. But what always gets my eye and has more sex appeal is the OLD HEMI hands down! 331,354,392 all the way. Why be like everyone else with a pop in create motor :)

    I SPECIALIZE IN EARLY HEMI INSTALLS IN B-E BODY MOPARS,  IT'S A NATURAL INSTALL, IT LOOKS LIKE A  FACTORY INSTALLED ENGINE.  MOST PEOPLE WHO SEE THESE CARS WITH EARLY HEMI's THINK IT'S A 426 HEMI, WE KNOW IT'S NOT.

    I HAVE OUTLINED THE INSTALLATION INFORMATION OVER THE INTERNET, BACK IN 1995.  WHEN FOLLOWING MY INSTRUCTIONS, THERE IS NO MODIFICATIONS TO THE CAR, NO WELDING, CUTTING, MOVING ANYTHINK, INCASE YOU MAY WANT TO REINSTALLED THE ORIGINAL ENGINE/TRANSMISSION BACK IN YOUR CAR.

    THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A HEMI, WEITHER YOU HAVE A 1st GENERATION, 2nd GENERATION OR A 3rd GENERATION, YOU WILL NOT GO BACK TO A 318-440 AGAIN EXCEPT FOR THE 426 HEMI

    I HOPE THIS INFORMATION WILL PUT TO REST THE NOTION THAT YOU ARE CRAZY FOR WANTING TO INSTALL A EARLY HEMI INTO YOUR CUDA, CHALLENGER, ROADRUNNER, GTX, SATELLITE, BELEVEDRE, SUPERBEE, CORONET,SAVOY, ETC.
