Engine Safety - Glass Fuel Filter
« on: April 20, 2009 - 12:20:35 PM »
Just had a near miss on the weekend. Started my car for the first time this spring, fuel was 'pouring' onto the garage floor. The clear filter i HAD on my car, the glass sleeve was loose and fuel was pouring on to my engine intake. It looks good but how to ensure it wouldn't happen again and ignite on the exhaust? Will be changing to a sealed throw away tonight.

Glass filters are a big no-no.   :22yikes:

they are one of the worst ideas put on the aftermarket in awhile. Ive used the clear PLASTIC filters from fram with no worries.

I've seen those where the O rings that seal the ends crack/dry out from not having any gas in them (car sits a while) New O rings and they work ok.
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

Most of them also dont filter very well. I use the old school steel can stock type for most stuff, and the billet or fram HPG1 filter with electrics.
