fender tags
« on: April 20, 2009 - 10:39:01 PM »
Is there any place where I can get new fender tags made for my 70 cuda. I don't have a build sheet or the original tags. Its a V car but now a Hemi Clone. the car is almost finished and getting fender tags would be a nice final touch.

With no build sheet or old fender tag, You don't know what to have put on our tag.   You could get a fake tag, which would be identifyable as fake

If you are wanting a custom tag, just make something up like "Hemi Clone".

If you want a fake tag, try & figure out the date & all the other details you can, I will still know it is a fake.

Barry  I'm doing a fake tag but we are putting in the order number location "CLONE" instead of the order number. I'm not trying to fool any one. It's a V code automatic with a crate hemi and a 5 spd. Just trying to make it a real good clone

Then just pick any date, or go with something like 999 or AAA - take steps to make sure no one is fooled.

I have stuff (original stuff) here for a few cars that currently have fake tags. I do not let the owners know I have the stuff if they have tried to fool people with fake tags. I can wait until the car has a new, more honest owner.  ;)

Since your original tag is missing, you may want one that looks like this;

+ Reward for original fender  +

    tag or broadcast sheet

  for BS23V0B137160 call

(insert phone number here)

That way, you have a tag to place in the missing spot, & when folks see it at shows, it may just lead to something "real" for your car.

If the door vin and the dash vin are the correct numbers (V code ), how could the fender tag fool any one ? Especially if it clearly says CLONE on it. I'm just trying to get the accurate build date. I have a whole thread on here of every step of the build every thing is out in the open.

Without an original document or tag to go from, there is no "accurate date",  some cars were built out of sequence. Thus my comments, just pick anything, it will not matter.

I don't see anything wrong with having a reproduction tag made as long as it's honest, if you know what you're looking for you can tell they aren't original. I had one made for my '70 Bee and since I'm the 2nd owner I knew every option it left the factory with and made it up to be so.   you can't fake a hemi or a six pack with a fender tag so even if someone added a trunk light it isn't going to double the value and screw someone.

Saying that a new fender tag is wrong is like saying if you lose your title a replacement one makes it a fraud.

amxguy has a good point , but to fake a tag just makes no sence in the new mopar world were a car with new disc brakes and wheels along with new car thinking sells for as much as double ,you could throw the build sheet and tags in the trash and the cars still worth more so whats the motive to fake a car when more can be gained on a straight up deal . model Az and Tz that have been restored to exact as original have been bought for the body and chassis to build hot rods for years ,kinda sounds like todays muscle cars huh.

I would think putting the word CLONE on the tag makes it pretty obviuos it is not a "fake" tag,as usual the vin police need to lighten up.  ::)

Besides putting "CLONE" in the tag, what else are you putting on there?

What options are you adding?

I say save your $100.00 and don't bother.
