Linkage Pictures - ???

I've got the shifting better now, it down shifts when I stomp on the gas pedal. It also stays in each gear a little longer now under normal driving, it was shifting WAY too early.
 The one thing she won't do is down shift to second gear as I slow down for a normal 90 degree in town corner. it wants to stay in third gear even as I exit the corner..........
 I just noticed a long skinny hose hanging out of the fire wall, can this be my problem?
What is this hose for?

My firewall is an AC car, so it looks different than yours. Still...That appears to be some type of drain hose. Nothing from your tranny connects from that area.

Try putting a ¼ inch bolt/washers/nut in the BACK of the slot to shorten the length of the slot and drive it.

You should also have a small spring in the area with the arrows that pulls the linkage forward.

You need the Holley adapter bracket also,then you probably don't need the bolt and washers.

Exactly Wade! The adapter bracket will get your pivot back to straight up. Notice the spring also and how it  keeps the linkage pin in contact with the REAR of the slot.  :cheers:

You do need the mopar adapter for all holleys. You also have to check for the over center problem after you changed your intake for a taller than stock one. Your linkage will stick you throttle at wide open throttle till you change some parts. Please check for this before you drive it for the first time after adding this bracket.

I've been full throttle at least a dozen times with no problem........
I will buy the adapter!!!

I added the spring and 1/4'' bolt as suggested. If it stops raining, I'll test drive it in the morning.

The over center problem is when the carb return spring angle pulls straight at the carb throttle shaft or over the other side basically pulling the carb open instead of closed.

This is the over-center problem.  When the carb is moved to wide open throttle, this arm is forced to the rear, which is limited by the length of the rear arm. The long arm then goes HORIZONTALLY OVER-CENTER which holds your throttle now in the "down" position, which is wide open and no amount of factory return springs will close it.   This change only happens when you change your intake to a taller than stock one and use this type of kick-down linkage.     Please take a picture of the throttle stuck, after you add the bracket, before you fix it.


All of my cars are now 4-speeds, so I can't take a pic. Around 1982, quick thinking (and no traffic) saved my car. My friends car wasn't so lucky.

I forgot to add,  that hose is to supply vacuum to your A/C box, then on to your A/C and heater switches.
