*** Wanted: 1968 Dodge Charger R/T ***
« on: April 22, 2009 - 11:17:23 AM »

As per the title, wanting a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T (XS) car. Will only look at real RTs WITHOUT the original drivetrain. Prefer a rolling chassis or an R/T with an non #s engine. I'm building a custom car, nothing fancy so am not looking for any "restored" cars and won't wreck a #s car. Wanting an original/survivor condition type car, not one with several (failed) attempts at body work and paint. Light surface rust is welcomed. Serious cash buyer. If the car sounds right, I can have friends/business collages view and inspect the car in person and do the cash deal on my behalf. Done it several times before. I then have the car picked up and trucked to LA, then on to a boat to New Zealand. Car must have a clear title.

WHY, contact: carlwalski@xtra.co.nz

Thanks,
Carl

Thank you kind Sir. Man, there are TONNES of XP (non RT) cars out there that are perfect lol.....but, I know I'll kick myself if I "surrender". It's only a # I know, but to me, a 1968 Dodge Charger doesn't sound as cool as a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T, #s or not. Thanks for the help, when you're 7,500 miles away you need all the help you can get lol

Good, then leave the #'s  68 R/T's to me.

Carl, serious question, I hope to not offend you.

For the entire time I've been on this site, its been '71 Triple Black Hemi Cuda for you.  You bought one, and sold it.  Was it too much of a disappointment?  That car you bought I mean?  I heard it was a mess, but I thought you said you bought all the sheetmetal and everything...

Again, not trying to offend you, just wondering.  It's your $$, you can do as you wish.

You're all good mate. It was a mixture of things. Money, time involved to do it right, lost interest and for someone my age with a house in the near future it was just a huge ask and a headache. Selling the 'Cuda was a huge relief to me. The only disappointment was the money I put in and lost on the 'Cuda. However, I had to stop a bad decisions from becoming a REAL bad decision. I'd hate to have spent $50K and be halfway through the body work then find it was costing too much then turn around and sell it.

I got exactly what I was after for the 'Cuda, a real good price considering it was "just" an acid dipped car with no engine/trans and needing a lot of work. The panels in the end helped sell the car. I'm going from one dream car to another so it's no loss to me at all. Its a well know "fact" (for lack of a better word) that I love triple black 68 charger R/Ts on this board, maybe prior to you being here, I know many can vouch for this, to me, they are more sinister than TB Cudas. I looked at them before the 'Cuda but it was first in first served. I already have Lucy which is my show car and as we all know, there isn't much of a difference between the two cars interior wise so along with all the other reasons stated above, I thought it was a good idea to go B-Body and have two totally different cars. Now it's time to find a solid Charger, do it up, and have fun. I need something to drop the FHO Hemi into. ;D

I've pulled the socks up and am moving on. My plans, like the 'Cuda for the most part. XVII Rear 3 link, XV1 front (to suit 15" rims), stiffening kit, stock appearing with hidden modern upgrades, nothing too serious, 540 Hemi and a built TF727 racing transmission, no OD, no frills, aiming for a lightweight badass straight line street brawler. Sorry for the long post but you did ask and it's the only way I can describe it, in greater detail.

Cheers,
Carl

I don't know of any myself but if you find one in this area I would be glad to inspect it for you. I could probably drag it down to the pier too if needed...

In any event I will keep my eyes open for one

Carl,
would you be interested if the car was located in the Netherlands?  There was one for sale here a while ago, I could look into it... might be sold though...

Hey Carl, I think this does not have the original engine in it.  Says brand new engine with 100 miles on it, no mention of matching #s...

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

Thanks Superblue, yup, I did see it and sent an email a few days ago, no reply as yet and although the black one looks cool it's not an R/T which is a must for me, it must be an OCD thing? lol. What ever car I get it will be stripped back as I like to know what work is been done and that the quality is high so the colour prior doesn't make any difference to me, black or red, it's still being stripped.

Thanks but no thanks Dutch, I'm not sure who I'd use or how it would pan out buying outside of the USA/NZ. I'm even skeptical of buying from Australia and that's close. Thanks all the same though, maybe a car for you??

Thanks Pete, much appreciated bud.

What's the price range?  just curious. I know where a 68 rt is no engine or trans. Needs to be put back together never had any body work or paint. I have a 68 440 I was giving to him to help him along, but might sell. Not sure. needed a small rear pass floor pan patch where battery sat. He has another factory pan ready for it. But it is just a project

Ah   never mind, I forgot. It's an alabama car and they didnt come with titles. It can be tagged and registered but no titles here....sorry.

My car doesnt have a title either, but is legal and registered.  Weird huh?

Thanks Al, bugger. Title is needed in NZ/Australia to legally VIN, register and WOF (warrant of fitness) the car. We have very strict road rules down here. I think the title is to ensure where the come has come from and that it is not a stolen vehicle, etc.....I "think" that's the main reason. Not sure but rules are rules. :-[

It's easy for me to get titles here in AZ.  If a car comes along from a non title state I just need a sales slip and a some docs from a title company.  Take it all down to the DMV and let them inspect the car. Walk out with a clear title for about $200 total including title company fees.

Really? All legal too? Nice to know, I'll keep that in mind. I don't think it matters who or where the title is from, as long as the car has a title when it's time to register/VIN the car in New Zealand. Thanks Pete!
