Opinion on these tranny/throttle linkage kits?
« on: April 22, 2009 - 12:57:06 PM »
Well, its about time to start thinking about connecting my tranny (yet to get it...but a 727) and the carb (an Eddie Performer 750 on an Eddie manifold) together with the go pedal.

I dont have ANY of the linkages or rods etc and the throttle cable needs replaced due to damage,  so I am starting as fresh as can be.

I was thinking Lokar after seeing them menetioned, bu then found these guys, who offer a one-stop kind of kit...

What do you guys think about this kit?

The way I see it all I would need then is the linkage between the console shifter arm and the tranny, right?

I have that kit...works fine for me.

I do not have a lot of miles on but I am happy with it so far.

So, then you are saying it is the throttle cable, bracketry and kickdown cable and bracketry?

The description on the site, quite frankly, sucks as far as what is included, unless I am missing something...and Icant get the link to the PDF to open to see what it includes...

I am all for saving the $$$$$$$$$$.........heck, thats almost 50% off....but I want to make sure it has everything I will need....

The Summit link is for the kick down cable only.

Get a manual valve body for the trans and do away with the trans throttle rod all together. My trans guy set mine up so it doesn't slam shift, just firm shifts.

Then you can take off in 2nd or 3rd gear in the rain or in traffic. I only use 1st gear a few times now.

Hadn;t thought of that approach...may be a good idea....

Although not sure if I want to be shifting or not....

ANother question:  My car has "slap shift" on the bezel.....does this mean anything other than how the shifter is designed?

If I went with a manual valve body woul the shifter need to be changed out or can I use the stock shifter and console?

The XV kit is overpriced, not to mention if it's out of stock they will sit on your money until they get it in stock or until you get P.O.'ed and get a refund, whichever comes first! I have the Lokar throttle and kickdown cables on mine and they work great! The XV kit looks just like the Lokar cables and bracket I have, only with black cable housings instead of the stainless braid.

Do you have a link to the whole kit, or did you buy the parts all seperate??

This is what I used.  I ended up getting their throttle bracket as well.

Sorry for the double-post.  Bouchillon also has throttle cables, etc. as well.

Well, ended up getting the Lokar stuff while at Carlisle.....kind of an impulse buy.....AFter Ibought it I remembered that the Bouchilon kit advertises it has all the ratios pre-figured to "save the life of the Torqueflite".........

Well, I own the stuff now so will try it I guess..LOL

Hoping the Lokar kit works and isnt too tough to figure out.

Shadango, sorry I didn't respond sooner, I've been in Tombstone all weekend partying with friends who are moving to Germany. I wouldn't worry about the Bouchillon 'ratios prefigured' thing too much, sounds like a marketing gimmick to me. Lokar has been at this stuff probably as long as Bouchillon and I'm sure they have it figured out just as well. I've had the Lokar kickdown cable on my Cuda for over 5 years now and dozens of dragstrip passes on the car. Never a problem with the tranny, so I would say it's working right. The cables are pretty straightforward to install. If you need pics of the carb bracket installed let me know. I have the kickdown cable adjusted so that the kickdown bracket is all the way back at wide open throttle.
