Opinion on 2009 SE?
« on: April 23, 2009 - 11:49:07 AM »
I'm considering getting one.  Is everyone happy with theirs?  I read reviews about long shifts and quality of the 4 speed auto.  Not really considering the R/T.  I already have a muscle car.  I just want an everyday car that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and cruises nice with a little bit more power than my hand me down 99 S10..  I am also considering the Charger because they are offering deals on them.

Welcome to my world.

I was in the same boat. I needed an everyday car, that looked cool, but wouldn't kill my budget, or burn as much gas as my classic.   :eek7: I have had fun adding after-market stuff to mine to confuse the public.

These are only available in the 4-speed auto. I have NO problem with mine. It shifts far smoother than the 5-speed auto 2005 Mustang I traded in. At Hiway speed, you are at something like 2100-2200 RPM's. Really, for a six-banger, this thing feels pretty darn good.   :grinyes:

Look into getting a SE Rallye edition. They put in a 5-speed automatic and some additional exterior additions over the regular SE.

That will probably push it into the R/T price range.

All new Challenger SE's built after March have the 5-speed auto standard.  No more 4-speeds at all.

Haven't seen one advertised as such but that is good news.  Is it not?

It sounds like it...But, my Mustang was a 5-speed auto. First gear was a joke. You were in second gear by 5 MPH, so at Hiway speed, it was doing a tad more RPM's than my new Challenger is now.  I don't see how that saves fuel.

Hopefully the 5-speed auto Mopar tranny is different.

I never even considered the SE as I think this car as well as the Mustang and Camero need a V8. That said I would think the SE is every bit as nice a car as the  R/T & SRT8. I have only driven mine once since just after we got it our flooding started. We are going to South Dakota this weekend and my bring it home if the weather holds out. I would say if you are looking you will not regret getting one. They are so nice I cannot wait for some decent weather to go cruising. Although we are supposed to get snow this weekend AGAIN!!!!

I love my Challenger..
It looks so much better than a Charger, IMHO..
I have had mine since Nov. 21st, '08 and it has been virtually trouble free..

I don't need mine to race with, or get tickets with, or higher insurance, or replacing rear tires every 2 months, or etc..
I just needed it to  c r u i s e  like I always wished my '72 `Cuda would have..
and to look good doing it..
It has plenty of power for the type of driving I do..
Gets all the looks, and thumbs up, and compliments of any Challenger owner..

You can pick them up cheap on ebay.  Does she have an SE?  There are people looking for undrilled trunks to swap so they can put the gul wing style wing on there.  And they will give you the old T/A style one.
