Hood Pins
« on: April 24, 2009 - 02:31:01 AM »
:dunno:  Since most hoods have a double latch mechanism for safety why is there a need to have hood pins?  I can understand if its a fiberglass hood but for OEM hoods is it only for looks?

aside from the cool factor it's pretty much known that you gain about 10 hp from them :roflsmiley:

You really don’t need them on a stock hood.  :grinno:

However, do you really need your Cuda either?  :poopoke:

Mostly they are for the “cool factor” and made these cars look more like racecars!  :2thumbs:  :burnout:

And yes the extra 10 HP doesn't hurt as well.  :smilielol:

If you plan on removing the secondary safety catch (to keep from hitting your head on it) the hood pins could be used for that.

I like hood pins for a safety factor and they look really cool.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

I'm going back to the dyno, I think I only got 8hp when I installed mine.  They were used though?

Make sure the lanyards are installed to get the maximum horsepower benefit. If they are just dangling down in front of the car then there is a certain amount of parasitic drag that happens during dyno pulls   :smokin:

Put some wax on the lanyards. That might help.   :misbehaving:

After hitting my head on that catch several times that's exactly what I did! :grinyes:

Hood pins are my only latch (fiberglass hood). I could really feel the hp gain after they were installed.

I know this is an old post but does anyone have instructions on how to install the hood pins on a 1973 Dodge Challenger? My body guy is trying to get out of installing them saying that "These things didn't come with instructions for placement". I really want them on the car but no one seems to have instructions. I purchased them from Dale's Cuda shop. I called them and they don't have instructions either. Called Year one, No luck there either. Any help would be appreciated. I want to gain the 10 HP that everyone's talking about.
