Indy B/RB heads.
« on: April 25, 2009 - 12:48:11 AM »
What do you think about Indy heads?? I have planned to get those for my challes 440.  :2thumbs: I think, i get some their cnc-ported and assembled head kit for her.  :droolingbounce: I dont know, what heads she have now, but i think they are some base heads, and i want absolutely more power than it has now with some factory heads.  :burnout:

Indy has some decent stuff , make sure you get the right head though , on a mild 440 I would be looking atthe EZ 325 heads as probably the best fit , the EZ 295 may be better depending where you want the power band

Thanks, somethink like that i was already thinking of.  :2thumbs: I was planning some 400-500hp will be enough for power, but without that lose driveability on street use. Strip use only sake of fun, and i dont mind if she doesn`t go under 10s on 1/4 mile. But either i dont want to lose some local rice toasters on stoplight.  :roflsmiley:

400-500HP just get some box stock edelbrock heads for way less..... it gives you more intake choices also..

The difference between the 295/325's is port volume - oiling and offset intake rockers..

You need a pretty big cam to make the 325's works well.....

I couldnt decide when I bought mine so I had jeff at modern cylinder head do his version CNC'd Indy EZ's and it put the port volume at 308... right in between and I didnt need the harland offset intakes which were another $400+ alone and kept the internal oiling  :2thumbs: ... had ferrea valves installed and backcut and setup for roller springs / spring pressures etc...

From the heads up I have appx. $5500 into the setup :scared: CNC'd Indy heads with upgrades / harland rockers / fully ported Indy 440-3 and a custom dominator / valve covers - breathers....

Thanks, and great video.  :2thumbs: :droolingbounce: So, i was thinking also that, at some right casting factory heads could be enough, if their do some desent porting. I am not suer, or remember, what casting numbers are in best heads for street/strip engine for. If i am not wrong, they were 509 heads.??  :clueless:

Thanks, those heads i mean to.  :2thumbs: I think, i can find those 906 heads here in easy, and they arent even expensive. I think, it is easier to find those heads fitting cam and intake, than if they would be indy heads. For me, the top end power is not so critical, than it is for those who race more.

If you have to have the bling, RPMs is stock form, but corrected, will give more power than you are looking for with the right build. With mild porting, factory iron will make 500hp again, with the right matched package. However, the iron will be within a few hundred of the edelbrocks, and give up the idea of good quench unless you start with closed chambers, and those are more to buy initially. So talk to peoplle who have more than one or two of these under they're belt. Stroker here is a good source. You dont need $3K heads to make 500 hp. And Indy has some issues of thier own, just like any aftermarket heads.

Yes, i agree, it might be wise to stay with some good basic heads, but get some proper porting for them.  :2thumbs: Those 906 casting heads will find even in here in finland.  :2thumbs: But cam i have to chance some tighter and what have more lift than factory cam. And mayby more compression have pistons and better flow intake.

Cam & heads will make the biggest difference to any engine , intake is also important , careful selection of matched parts will make a lot of power
