They do it because they can get away with it
« on: April 25, 2009 - 09:05:58 PM »
I was returning from the Spring Fling in Van Nuys this afternoon (nice show, by the way), going south on I5 in Orange County, CA. Traffic was moving well, for the 5, at about 70 mph. Two California Highway Patrol cars went by in the right lane, doing at least 100 mph. The lead car had their flashing lights on. The CHP station is close to my home, and southbound CHP cars use the same exit I do going home. As soon as the cars approached the exit ramp, they slowed down and the lights went off. They proceeded on the surface street at normal speed, and tuned into the station. I followed them into the parking lot. They opened the gate, parked their cars, and that was it.

I have seen this stunt pulled several times. Evidently it's shift change time, or they need to get back to the office to fill out paperwork. Maybe they both had to pee really bad. It's too bad they see no problem driving like punks street racing their parents Lexus, endangering other drivers. I guess they do it because they know they can get away with it. I thought of going in next week and, in my subtle, diplomatic way, asking them WTF? They would probably shoot me. They could certainly get away with that, too.

I had an issue with a badge looking for our shop kitty who had gone missing for 8 days. I can appreciate the circumstance that the people of badge have to deal with, it goes with the job, but I did find an attitude that was larger than mine, but hiding behind the badge. It took a pretty steelly eyed deep voice to put this guy in his place, instead of a bullet in me. No gun drawn, but the arrogance of the badge was unreal! All happened in what he admitted, in hindsight, what was a well know stray cat feeding ground!
good luck getting any answers.
This thought may not be politically correct, but is an opinion offered. It may be correct? or it may be wrong? It is not designed to appease those needing shelter from the real world.

If you see it again, see if you can get a car #, then call the station and ask to speak with the station commander or shift supervisor and report them.

:iagree: Law Enforcement is notoriously bad at policing themselves.

I've seen police cars switch on their lights and sirens when they approach a red light, then shortly after getting through the intersection, turning the lights back off.
You never know, they may have been on their way to a crime in progress where they didn't want to tip off the crooks they were on their way, but I always am a little suspicious when I witness them doing that!

im from a very large family and we have two gens of firemen and three gens of cops .the thing is no one in the family extends an invite to get togethers . so much attitude you cant even talk to them .the up side is the cops cant stand the firemen and the same in return . the one common denom is that none had the attitude before they signed on. when i asked about the tensions i was told that a commoner wouldnt understand real life issues .  :dunno: so we just leave them to their egos and move on .

Today I stopped at the CHP office and explained to the officer at the desk what I had seen. He said "Well, it could have been they were responding to a call and got called off". I told him I had seen this happen before, and his response was "It sounds like you already have your mind made up they were just in a hurry to get back to the station". Duh, I thought. Throw me a bone that it could have been something else.

Hebeegbz. I won't even do work (I do cabinetwork) for a firefighter. I have never met one that didn't know everything. I can tell a firefighter by the way they walk- I'm not kidding. They have this strut that gives them away.

:iagree:  that is abuse of power.  They are to up hold the laws not break them and a judge would see it the same way if he was a good judge that is.

I know exactly what your talking about, attitude wise, but I must say two of the finest, nicest men I know are police officers, both with 20+years service... teachers & police the two thankless jobs.
