Just wait another 3-4 years with all oil and gas development constantly being blocked. When the world emerges from the recession and India and China ramp up their energy useage again we'll be paying twice as much for a quart. Even an electric car has petroleum in the rear, tranny, bearings and tires and I know of no electric powered 737 or 18 wheeler. And where do our troops find a socket in Afganistan to plug their Hummers and Copters in? :clueless:

Ok....went to put on the dust cover for a trial fit before painting and it aint going on.

I have an aftermarket (looks like a Milodon) deep oil pan and wondering if thats part of it....

Is the dust shield supposed to go behind the rear oil seal on the pan?   I assumed that and have it 95% there but it is just not moving now....plus it looks like it is flexed/jammed up against the flexplate at the top so that cant be right....Do I have to trim the cover maybe to fit around the seal???
:feedback: :1zhelp:

Oh boy! I don't know how many times I have put a Dodge Trans back in (Dodge Rams,Dakota's,Durango's included) and had the dust cover rub because it was bent just a little bit! It is hard to say what you have going on there. I know the after market front and rear valance body panels don't fit worth a crap,it might be the same issue.  :dunno:

This must not be my day for working on the car.  :banghead:

I bought the tranny lines from mancini.....the line to the rear tranny fitting is fine.

The front line is too long by like 5".  Overall length is 44".

I guess I can hack a piece out of the long straight part and connect with hose or a union...pisses me off though.....didnt want to get into that stuff.......thats why I bought premade lines!!!!! :villagers:

The dust cover I have appears to be an old stock one......it even has the little bolt-on window.

Is the cover supposed to go like this? Behind the seal?

It wasnt going behind there no how no way what with the oil pan...I think the aftermarket pan goes further back or something.

So I used some creativity.   I opened up the cut out for the pan and just made it fit in FRONT of the seal......its on and looks good.  Should do what it is intended to do I guess....

I just have to pick up some bolts.....

Was having some issues with the shifter stuff....seems that my tranny has a B&M lever on it.

Well, I made that work too.  :)    So the shifter is setup and wiring is on....still have to figure out what the deal is with the one tranny line being too long...I may just cut it and use a union to reconnect and hope I get the cut right the first time.   Mancini called back and said that they checked the other set they have and its the same length.   So, they aregoing to call the manufacturer on TUESDAY!!!!!!!!! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

If I can get everything else done that I need to on Monday, I may just cut the line and union it and be done with it......hate to have an extra set of places it can leak though.... :pullinghair:

I do lots of stuff myself but when my tranny lines had a pin hole leak I drove it down to the trans shop and let them bend new lines for it..$80 and my hands stayed clean, lol

I let the tranny shop install the trans too, this way if it messes up they can't blame me and THEY have to pull it, not me.

Just a thought, but are you sure you have that line you have installed on the right fitting on the tranny? One of them is located farther back than the other about the same distance as yours looks too long. And using teflon tape on a flare fitting probably won't help because it will leak out the back of the fitting where the line comes through before it leaks out the threads.  :dunno:

Well, my car aint driving anywhere yet.  LOL  And flat-bedding will cost money I dont want to spend.

Not to mention that I am putting this car together from parts gathered here and there......that means that there is tweaking and such that needs done.....and that will cost even more $$$.

Besides, I figure this is my project.....learning as I go is part of the fun for me.

Actually, its all been going really well, knock wood.  And really enjoying the build......getting my hands dirty is part if the fun for me.

All I have left before the first fire is:

- install the second tranny line --- either wait till next week and see what the manufacturer says -- if they say its wrong, ship the old one back and wait for the new one -- or, cut the one I have and use a compression fitting union I picked up at the hardware store.  After sleeping on it, seems like the compresion fitting should work, shouldnt it?  What kind of pressure is in the tranny lines?  I mean you use hoses to hookup an external tranny cooler, using hose clamps...so a compression fitting should work....right?

- install the Lokar kickdown (wondering how easy that will be)

- install the carb electric choke

- install the oil/temp/volt gauges (probably the most time consuming thing left--I want to know what the engine is doing the first time it runs).

- lube the u joints (ok, not needed for first zoom, but might as well do it while I am under there)

- fill the tranny with fluid

- fill the radiator with juice

- put gas in the tank

CLEAR FOR ZOOM! :jumping:

of course I have no exhaust yet -- just the stock manifols are in place -- so it will be LOUD....but I need to hear this thing running!
