Hey tactransman got a couple of questions for you if you dont mind. Where is a good place to get the billet sprag? I have always heard the 5.0 kickdown is the lever to get for performance, was I misled? Thanks for answering my Q's

The 5.0 lever makes for alot of 2-3 shift over lap. The 4.2 is the best, 3.8 is easy to get and works well too.

Talkedto the guy again today to ask about these. 

To be really honest, I am not sure he is a true "Torqueflight expert".  Maybe I wasnt asking the right questions or maybe he was just too busy at the moment....but he didnt seem to have great answers to the questions I asked....

I asked about the shift kit and asked if it was a TF-2, etc....he said he didnt think so but that he could check the part numbers on the box when it came in,   He didnt know what the cost on the servo was.....told me he would check the paperwork when it came in....

I dunno, maybe he just has a really poor "bedside manner" and is the best tranny guy around.

That does not sound right, he should know what he ordered. He should know how much the servo was also. Let me know what you find out.

I am hoping he is just really busy and forgets stuff like I do.....(I am trying to stay positive here)......

I keep reminding myself that I am not the pro here.....didnt hear back from him today as I expected.....will see tomorrow....

Well, slept on it and woke up and realized that my gut was trying to tell me something.

I called and basically pulled the plug....got the tranny back from him.

At first I felt a little bad....what if I am not giving hom a chance?

When I walked in, though, he had to ask "which one is yours again" ?  Them while loading it , he asks me 'What was this out of again?"  :eek2:

Mind you, it has only been two days.  I spoke with him a couple times regarding parts etc.

And he doesnt know who I am and what tranny is mine and what the thing is out of?

I started thinking about how his answers to my questiuons were just very vague and "BS-ish" if that makes sense.....and to not know how much a part was or what part number it was an hour or two after supposedly ordering it?

Something felt very wrong......he may have been the best trammy guy in the land...but even had he done the job I would have second guessed it from the start.

So, I am back shopping for a Torqueflight expert in my area.... :working:  If anyone knows of one, please let me know.

Again, Tactransman, you have been a HUGE help here on this......had this guy been even half as interested in my tranny as you seem to be, there would have been no issue.

Just curious -- what do you folks think about the transmissions you can buy from autozone and such? They have "beefed up" versions.....I also saw an ad in Mopar Muscle ...a company selling trannys. I really would prefer a local torqueflight expert to hook me up....but if I cant find one..... :clueless:

If you have any Mopar car clubs in your area,ask them who is good on Torqueflites.
This is the only thing I know for you to do. :dunno:  Auto Zone and such transmissions are over priced and STOCK.

I haven't found any clubs yet.....been looking.....

Got parts from one guy ( he collects e bodies and does e body parts for a living) and had asked him, but he was very tight lipped about who he used....said it was a private individual......"just does them for friends".....

I don't know where you live but I'd do any TF for $200 + parts. Might not do what some others do with them but they held up behind a RR that did 8.0's in the 1/4.

Well you always can get an ATI trans and converter...great stuff but you need to pay up...they want $1,400 for their 727 or 904 trans and highly recommend a trans shield on all toruefile  trans...converter will set you back another $400-$600 depending on what you get.

If you do find someone local to do the trans I suggest you get the shift kit and other parts you are wanting used in it before getting a price. That way you know you got the best price you could on the parts and the cost of the rebuild  will be basically just labor costs, which you can nail down before the work ever starts. That way you won't be stressing about the stuff you were with this last guy!

i believe you could do it yourself with a little guidance from this site. there really isn't much to a torqueflite. but i would reccomend a bolt in sprag!

Yeah, thats more than I want to put into a tranny to be behond the 318 I have right now....

Plus, it would all be done in the mail.

If I am going to ship back and forth with anyone I dont know well, I would pick Tactransman! :ylsuper:  Seeing as he is well respected here and seems to know what he is doing and then some.  (Tac, do you even do that sort of thing?)  I would think shipping would be a huge setback/cost.

I would prefer to have someone local in the event of any issues.

How many of you guys have done tranny builds through the mail and how did they turn out?  How do you handle performance issues/questions?
