I do lots of stuff myself but when my tranny lines had a pin hole leak I drove it down to the trans shop and let them bend new lines for it..$80 and my hands stayed clean, lol
I let the tranny shop install the trans too, this way if it messes up they can't blame me and THEY have to pull it, not me.
Well, my car aint driving anywhere yet. LOL And flat-bedding will cost money I dont want to spend.
Not to mention that I am putting this car together from parts gathered here and there......that means that there is tweaking and such that needs done.....and that will cost even more $$$.
Besides, I figure this is my project.....learning as I go is part of the fun for me.
Actually, its all been going really well, knock wood. And really enjoying the build......getting my hands dirty is part if the fun for me.
All I have left before the first fire is:
- install the second tranny line --- either wait till next week and see what the manufacturer says -- if they say its wrong, ship the old one back and wait for the new one -- or, cut the one I have and use a compression fitting union I picked up at the hardware store. After sleeping on it, seems like the compresion fitting should work, shouldnt it? What kind of pressure is in the tranny lines? I mean you use hoses to hookup an external tranny cooler, using hose clamps...so a compression fitting should work....right?
- install the Lokar kickdown (wondering how easy that will be)
- install the carb electric choke
- install the oil/temp/volt gauges (probably the most time consuming thing left--I want to know what the engine is doing the first time it runs).
- lube the u joints (ok, not needed for first zoom, but might as well do it while I am under there)
- fill the tranny with fluid
- fill the radiator with juice
- put gas in the tank
CLEAR FOR ZOOM!
of course I have no exhaust yet -- just the stock manifols are in place -- so it will be LOUD....but I need to hear this thing running!
