heres what i did today
« on: April 26, 2009 - 09:25:43 PM »
me and my pals often jest about no more parts to be had stashed away like in the 80's.
in illinois(where i grew up), indiana, and wisconsin there was always hidden stashes to be ferretted out. i was rather good at it. lots of mopar parts and to many old harley , indian and henderson parts crossed my path on a regular basis. so regular, my pals tagged me with "what else ya got" for a nickname.that was the question i so often asked in a conversation, that almost always led to a killer score. long story short, i met a new friend today. it all started out with a craigs list ad.

i cant link the page, im sure its deleted by now.
natch, i jumped into action.
i left an e-mail asking him what he wanted for all of it, and to call me.
he responded, and after some schedule juggling, he agreed to meet me.  while milling around,( there was stuff all over, you name it, car stuff, furniture, housewares, all over the yards!) and chatting, he mentioned he may have some other mopar parts lying around. so after digging through alotta stuff, and i must emphasize that...i found
4 nice early rallye wheels with centers
2 440 motors, 1 with a deep sump pan and an s stamped on the boss  :clueless: check out the rerouted oiling.  :2thumbs:

the other , a bare block, but after digging, found all the internals. 6 sets of 440 heads, lots of water pumps, alternators, a box of cool old school carb adapters, a beautifull 72 to 74 grille center section.
a fantastic steering column(hehe) its in great shape!!!, although dirty. and another rimblow with 1 crack in it, but otherwise a nice piece. lots of trim stuff, and some stuff so rusty, ill have to take a day and i.d. it. all in all i think i did pretty good. he wouldnt tell me what he wanted for all of it, just make me an offer he kept saying. so here me and my son are, standing over piles of parts, and i go... hows a hundred bucks to start?
he goes, gimme 95 and its all yours. i gave him 140.00 and loaded up. 2 trips later, and my cup overfloweth with sweet mopar goodness.

check out this trim in the original packing!!!

 :woohoo:

Great score.  There's a guy near me that's clearing out a bunch of Mopar stuff - I've posted a few of his car ads in the Craigslist section - and I have a feeling he may have more than what he's offering at a good price.  I don't have any place to store extra stuff or I'd investigate further.

Hey John one of those steering wheels would have been great for my barracuda.  Nice score for sure wish I had some luck like that again.  never know who or where they are.  Gordon
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

one serial number barry. its on the bare block.
ch43k c1 38373
casting is- 2536430-10
on the pad is stamped e440  a  1  1  2  3
the e440 is stand alone
the a is under the 0 in 440 and upside down
1, 2  and 3 are on the bottom of the pad
and the other 1 is sideways pointing toward the 440

the other block has the altered oiling provision and no serial number.
it is casting number 2536430-7
on its pad is a huge s
the other stampings i cannot make out. tell me a good way to etch them.i can make out what i think is a 2, a 9, and what may be a 17.

i tried taking pics, but my cameras eyes are worse than mine!!!!

actually, they just wouldnt show the slight stampings.

the guy i got these from claims he saw a huge write up on the "s" block in a book.
but for the life of him cannot recall what book, or where.   :poopoke:

i may sell some of the stuff guys, i just need to go through it and actually see what i have. i may donate most of it, thats what i'd prefer to do. but i'll let ya know when im done i.d.ing it all.

so, for now...

Holy treasure find, Batman!  :faint:

In my area I think for the price you paid you could only get a beat up steering wheel!  :faint:

Pleas keep us informed if you sell any of it!!!  :jumping:

Wow that is one nice find!! I always like those style steering wheels, but I could never find one in my price range. I wish my car still had its wheel well trim too. My 71 Challenger used to be in Fl, I wonder if any of that stuff used to belong to my car. :worshippy
