Holy crap!   Just went there and saw the price.

$175!!!!!!!

Ok, so the link mentions that they went to a ball style in late 74....

Anyone know if that can be done on a 72 slapstick?

Yes. Something was wrong with the original, so I bought this wire and socket on E-Bay. I didn't feel like tearing up the carpeting to run it up under the dash.

I wish I did. I think the socket was my problem too.

ALl this talk of the shifter got me interested in getting my shifter functional...so played with it last night.....

Found that the plastic plate that has the "pointer" line on it and slides with the shifter is broken....can this be replaced ? I couldnt see how to remove it....

I shined a flashlight up into the socket whole and it seems that the color indicators all still appear to be intact!  :woohoo: Although the chrome around the bezel is kind of in rough shape....good enough for a driver now though I guess.

I have the socket and wiring too.  ....though not sure if it works yet....I can take a picture of the socket if that would help anyone....

I lubed up the shifter and was glad to say the slap shifter works fine!

Still looking for a solution to the T handle though.....mine is missing the guts and button and has a crack at the bottom....
