You can change it afterwards. Don't buy a T handle from year-one. I broke three of them.... The aftermarket one I had felt sooo cheap compared to the original.

Any good leads on good replacements?

Man, I was thinking year one was at least the "good ones"....$60 or so....ouch.

Or do you have to look for originals, which I am sure are rare.....?

I went to one of the pistol grip automatic shifters. I wouldn't buy another from yearone...

I have the model with the trigger. It's ok but I like the look of the one you have better.

I have the one with the trigger also, the only thing i dont like about it is i think it needs to be tilted forward a little more, the ways its tilted now you cant grip it like a pistol grip 4 speed.

Can you guys post some pics of the pistol grip setup in an original console car (will that even work?).

What is involved with using the pistol grip setup instead of the t handle....does the whole shift have to be changed out?

Ill post some pics of mine later tonight if someone doesnt beat me to it. There is a company that makes a pistol grip shifter for the automatics, it installes in about 5 minutes with 2 small alan head screws.

Any idea on the name of that company!?!?!?!?!

AT $50-60 for a cheap copy of the plastic one, I would consider going to a pistol grip if its not too $$$$$, even though the purists will probably find the concept revolting....LOL
