8 3/4 question???
« on: April 27, 2009 - 12:51:03 PM »
Not only do I have an 8 3/4 in a car that needs a Dana 60, but as luck would have it I have the crappy 741 unit to boot. I know StRoKer will give me hell for this but I cant afford a Dana at this time, so my question is where can I find a 742 or a 489 unit. Also will it work with the Moser axles that I already have and will my driveshaft work? Dont worry Jason I'll get a 60 one day! :2thumbs:

I have a spare carrier but you will still need brgs gears etc so it will still cost to build it , , as long as the tires spin I bet you will not break the gearset , yes the alxles will still work , the driveshaft will as well but the U joint / yolk size may be different so you would need a conversion joint to connect it .
I would save your $$ for the Dana & run what you have until it breaks

Do you mean I proably wont break the 741 with tire spin? I have only ran the car on drag radials so dead hookin is not an issue but I do want to run full slicks down the road. I guess all roads are pointing in one direction! What caseing do you have and what would you take for it if I decide to go that route? Thanks! :2thumbs:

I ran a mild 440/ 4-speed with slicks for years with a 741 case.  The only times I have broken an 8 3/4 the gears were fine, it was the differential/spider gears that let go.

The goal never changes - Stop the 60' timer with your back tires
