Caution: Paypal phishing email
« on: April 27, 2009 - 08:14:46 PM »
I just got a fake PayPal e-mail that looked so good I actually sent my e-mail address and password to the link that was in it. It's next page asked for my credit card number, expiry date and bank account PIN number. That's when I thought it was odd; didn't add that info, and immediately changed my PayPal password.

The e-mail starts out saying, "We regret to inform you that your account has been temporarily limited". It's address is "msglimit@webssl.com". Just thought I'd pass this along. After reading PayPal's security section they say they'll never ask for personal information in an e-mail...wish I would have known that sooner.

It's all good, no money lost and I'm secure again.

Yeah, I got that very realistic looking email about a year ago. The only problem was I didn't even have a PP account then so I figured out it was a scam  :smilielol:

I've had a Paypal account for several years and have received many scam Paypal emails. Don't ever click on a link in an email to go to the supposed sender's site! Always use your web browser to go to any site that has any of your personal info.

John,

I don't think that spoof email originated in Canada or they would have been trying to ask for a brokerage fee, too!  :scared:  :smilielol:

I've been hit by that one...  $75 on a $200 item I sold.  Made me understand why people don't like shipping internationally.

I hear ya. I really feel sorry for anyone that gets caught up in any identity theft too.
PayPal got back to me and said there's been no unauthorized attempts to gain access to my account. I'm really lucky for catching it in time and changing my password. Thanks for all the tips too.
