Any of yall that were alive in the late 60s know about Camaro packages?

I got into an argument at work today about Camaro packages. He said the the SS was the highest package you could get. I said the Z28 was the highest package. Which package was considered a higher package on the 1st gen camaros?

Other than the extremely rare ZL-1 the RS/SS was the highest package you could order.

Most of the "real" early Zs I ever saw were strippers.  SS cars on the other hand have all kinds of extra crap hanging off of them.

The SS was the top of the performance line. The Z-28 was a small block. You could add the RS package to either model as it was a dress up package. The ZL1 really wasn't available to most people so it's really not usually considered part of the equation.

Ok. I always thought that the z28 was a higher package since it was built for racing. I guess I was wrong though. Thanks yall.

The Z-28 was like teh T/A Challenger, built for Trans Am racing, which is why the Z-28 comes with a DZ 302 small block (327 with a 283 crankshaft). so that it could meet the 305 cubic inch displacement requirement and of course in order to compete it had to be a production car.

Whatta you mean by "higher" package. More performance, more price, more options?

RS was the more highly optioned package. SS was the higher performance package. RS/SS would be the best combo of both. Z28 was an entirely seperate entity on 1st gens and while a good all around performer, was not the highest power option out there. ZL1 were so limited in their availability they were out of reach for most buyers, but they were probably the highest priced of all options.

You could get a Z28/RS also. RS was just a few dress up items like hidden headlights.

I thought there were 2 packages that were even higher priced.  The Como and there was another one that was special made but can not remember the name of it.  Just remembered Yanko or how ever you spell it.  A friend of mine had both is the only reason I knew anything about them.  I think that was like a deal installed setup or something I know they were almost race or something like that.

COPO cars were special order optioned cars.  It wasn't really a "package" per se.  But yes, they were really cool and fast cars.  A co-worker of mine saw for sale a "double COPO", not sure what that meant, first time I heard that term.  Maybe a it had a ZL-1 package plus some other nifty option?
