Front Disc Help!
« on: April 28, 2009 - 09:49:49 AM »
I am installing front disc brakes on a '72 Challenger for a friend.  The whole front disc setup came from a '74 Challenger donor car.  I bought reman calipers and they came with the hardware.  Before I installed them I looking in the FSM to see how everything went together, especially the anti-rattle spring.  I noticed in the FSM for a '72, there is piece called a "Positioner" that goes on the caliper bolts before they go through the caliper and pads.  The hardware kit did not include them.  Are they needed?  Can you still get them?

Thanks!

Jeff

I would start with Raybestos or Wagner then lookat rebuilders like Fenco or Cardone
the calipers I order rebuilt come with them included

There's a superseded caliper bolt kit that is shorter than the OEM one's that were original. It eliminates the need for the caliper anti rattle vibration hardware.

I don't have the p/n right now but I will try and find it and reply back to you. I actually have a set and the instructions clearly say these are replacements for the older version. I won't be able to get to them till at least Friday.

I don't believe my 73 came with them. I've had the car since 22K miles & have done all the brake work since then.

I don't have all the details but it looks like you are trying to install '74 brakes on a '72 Challenger using a '72 FSM.

If I'm not mistaken, there are some difference with the '73-'74 cars and the '70-'72 cars, having to do with pin vs. slide type calipers.  Maybe someone else will chime in on this.  Not sure if it make a diffeerence in the issue at hand.  :dunno:
