woooo! what an exciting day! after about 5 different tests with the Organosol, we shot the tail panel today. Now it's looking like a real car again...
The formula we ended up with was reducing it 160%, with a slow lacquer reducer. Sprayed it in 6 even coats with a 1.4 tip., and a gravity fed gun, which is probably a must for this paint. The factory states 150% on the sheets, but things are different now. At 150% it looked nice, and was too much of the 320 grit sandpaper finish that a lot of people go by. Just the 10% more made a difference. Texture, sheen, are awesome.... we also used a black sealer primer as a base, to ensure a better coat over the sanded area. At 125%, it was way too gritty... I talked to Roger Gibson today before I did the final spray, and he suggests that it is a finer grit like this...he even said "If you want it to have less texture you can mist coat over the organasol with flattened lacquer, with one or two mist coats. That will lessen the grit which should be very fine. " Anyway, it looks pretty awesome.. It takes longer to dry, and at first it looks a little weird, but about 40 minutes later it looked amazing. Tomorrow I shoot the wing, then prep the engine compartment and fenders and hood....
