It's all a matter of the surrounding customers.  You probably have enough rich/lazy folks in the area that they are not going to take the time to shop around.  Like someone said on another thread, he saw a couple walk in, take a test drive, and drive it home, all within a short time, so they probably didn;t do any price checking or negotiating.  If you shop around it's obvious that you can find a better deal, you just have to be willing to travel some distance.  Have you tried any other dealerships?  The bottom line, though, is don't put this on Chrysler.  Once the car leaves the plant, they have little to no control over pricing.

:iagree:  Here in the Chicago area I see new Challengers almost every day already.  They're in demand here.

Except for the interior which is Charger.

Yep, the steering wheel is the same.

All that is required is a little shopping. If those dealers won't drop their extra mark-up there are other dealer that will. We have not sold and SRT8 above MSRP since the beggining of production.

Our local dealer is asking 5k over sticker for the SRT8 they have on the lot.  I asked about getting a base R/T 6 speed ordered and they brought me back a sheet for a fully LOADED R/T stickering at 39k.  They are not willing to order anything.  Hopefully this week new incentives will come out and I can find a dealer somewhat close that is willing to locate me a car!!

I think the challenger prices may go up for a bit during the plant closing during  all that bankruptcy stuff they won’t be making any new ones so dealers will be marking them up.  :puke:

Any other car should be cheaper as they want to move inventory.

The challenger plant is in Canada so production will not stop unless they run out of parts.

Challenger production will stop as they do receive parts from their U.S. Chrysler counterparts as well as suppliers who have stopped shipping parts due to the Chapter 11 filing.....

Okay guys and gals. I am new to this forum as I am a die hard Mustang fanatic --- now hold on before you dismiss what I have to say.  The Challenger has accomplished what other cars, including fords have been unable to do.  These new challengers look so close to the originals it is remarkable.  I had a Challenger on order but was cancelled due to the plants going idle.  I searched and finally found a dealer which had some challengers 70 miles away.  We drove down and after seeing the hemi orange  R/T I saw a silver SRT8 close by.  We talked about it and decided to buy both.  I could have just as easily purchased a 2010 Mustang GT but since we already have a 2010 v6 and Ford is not as bad off financially as Chysler we decided to do our part to help keep an AMERICAN company in business. In fact, we traded in a 2008 mustang to finance one of the Challengers and an Edge to finance the other.  Listen, Chrysler needs to sell cars for a profit to stay in business.  It didn't even cross our minds to take advantage of the situation and lowball the dealer on the price.  :nono:  Come on, how is Chrysler or any other american company going to survive if we are looking for ways low ball the products?  Now that being said, any dealer trying to jack up the price in light of the situation should be drawn and quartered.  Dodge has a real winner with the Challenger and too bad it came into play so late. I have my doubts as to whether this vehicle will be produced when the plants ramp up again, especially if the Gov't has anything to say about it.  So if you want a Challenger, find one and be proud to do your part in keeping an American car company in business.  BTW, we are in debt for 5 years on these cars but I feel we made a good decision. ;D
Long Live the American Muscle car! :wavingflag:
P.S.  I saw a new Camaro last night.  IMO a very poor example of engineering.  What were they thinking?!  It's cramped, far too "chisled", interior is cheap and only hints to it's rich history.  Again this is only an opinion from a Ford guy who has owned the occassional Mopar.

I like what you have to say on the subject. I just wish I could join the new Challenger club. I will but its going to take time. Its going to be a race as to whether I can get a new one and I REALLY want to get a brand new one. If I miss the boat I will pick up a used one as soon as I can.    :wavingflag:  muscle built in   :canada:  =   :woo:         :burnout:   :drunk:

Tom Lasorda had said in a press release that they had enough parts to run for 30 days and probably 60.

I ordered my 2009 R/T Classic from Military car sales since I'm in Germany right now.  I did this only after the hometown dealer (Bellingham WA) told me of the 5k markup for the R/T and 15k markup for the SRT!  I (will hopefully) take ownership in June at a cost fully loaded of just over 38k. And I got 0% financing from Chrysler to boot!  Can't beat that with a stick.

Looks like Mr Lasorda was wrong, and I hear before Chrysler emerges from the proceedings will have retired.
