Home playing nurse maid to my dog again
« on: May 01, 2009 - 06:40:41 AM »
Using my vacation time this week and next to take care of my kid Rikki after his second ACL surgery on Tuesday, poor guy.His brother Rikor has also had one leg done so we are getting pretty good at it but it is still a PITA as you have to babysit them to keep them from using the leg or licking the wound as they like to do.So far the weather has been decent so at least I can tie Rikki outside and watch him as get some work done around the house.Hopefully it will be worth it to have him back to 100% and running around beating on his brother in a couple months.Rikki is the brown/tan guy, they love thier doggie ice creams!

I feel your pain Brother. My German Shepard recently tore his 2nd ACL as well. It's a huge PITA babysitting them, but when they did the operation, they actually broke the bone and repositioned it so the chances of it happening again are very slim, so hopefully he'll be good to go now. According to my Vet., many dogs have a design flaw from the factory that makes them prone to tearing their ACL.  At $2500 per leg, it gets a little expensive.

I guess I got off cheap as mine were only around $1400 a pc(x3).My surgeon did the basic replacement as they are medium size dogs-around 50 & 60 pounds.

I can feel your pain!  My Akita Vixxen had 2 ACL surgeries.  She was under 2 yrs old and it was hard to keep her calm.  It is all worth it when you see them running and enjoying themselves again!  Hope your furkid is feeling better very soon.

We actually have a local brand called yogound-same as Frosty Paws but all natural ingredients. It`s amazing how they know it`s Saturday night when I go to the freezer and they get excited before we even say the word. You find out they also listen to commands really well when they know what you have in your hand.
