Can I do away with these???
« on: May 02, 2009 - 06:23:11 PM »
Got the Cuda in the shop & my body man suggested that I cover these holes up. He's going to shorten the rear brackets & mount the bumper closer to the rear like the 70-71. What's the purpose for these cut outs & do I really need them :dunno:

Those cutouts are for the rear bumper guards.  All years have them, so if you want to smooth the rear valence your body guy will have to do the work.  Some of the members here have done it, and it looks great, but is a lot of work and will cost a few hundred extra for the labor.

The price includes the mods. required to smooth out the rear valance...if I choose to go that route.

yup, I want to do it but its a back burner project.  I bought an extra valance to experiment with in case I cant get it 100% correct (thanks 4C  ). I also had aspirations of frenching in the exhaust tips as well as they are done on some of the extreme resto mod cars.

Please post pics if you get the rear valance smoothed. Would love to see that

If that's already included I would definitely do it.  Otherwise you will need to buy a set of the 70/71 rear bumper guards, which will cost you a couple hundred.

Flores - how did the valance turn out? Did you use someone in the DFW area? Please advise

Here's what I did to fill em in on my Challenger.

The Cuda would necessitate a different execution.

:iagree:  I thought the purpose of those areas protruding out from the rear valance was to make room for the shackle to move?  :clueless:  I believe that on Cuda's they needed this area more than Challengers?  :dunno:

On my car with the Dr Diff kit they are offset inboard slightly. I have clearance to do this but I think my Cuda panel is more flared out than the Chally in the pic. Thanks for posting the pics.

If you aren't using the bumperettes, fill them in. IMO, the rear looks unfinished if you leave those 'shackle viewing ports'.  :2cents:

agreed - it looks funky with them. Has anyone modified their Cuda valance and any tips on doing this?

I couldn't decide what to do either so I ended up making some polished aluminum blank off plates.
