What would you do in my position? UPDATED 5-8-09

What would you do if you were me?  I have a job with the company I was working with in Iraq but it is going to be away from the area I am in now.  I just got a letter that says I have have been selected for an interview for the teaching position I applied for a little while ago and the college is close to where I am now living.  What would you do?

If my dream job were to teach then I would take the interview for sure.  It doesn't mean you have to take the job or quit the other.  Always leave your options open for what is best for you.

I love to teach for sure.  I think I will go to the interview at least and see what happens and what they might offer.
Then I would not have to leave where I am and would not have to travel as much anyways.  With the other job it will lead to other things as well and even back in to teaching from what I have been hearing.  So I want to keep my options open.  Thanks

I would definitely go through with the interview.  Even if it's not as much money, keep in mind that you will be at home a lot more.  What kind of commitment would they be making.  I know when my father was teaching, he would sign a 3 year contract, which would be renewed each cycle.  Unfortunately he was not renewed after the first cycle, because they wiped out his division.

:iagree:  I agree with everyone.  Go to the interview then see what happens there.

Which direction would be more stable if you were to land both jobs?  I guess in this economy stability is important.

Was going to call them today to see what was going on.  I have this week off from the other job so I thought I would go for the interview and see what they were offering at least.  Been a while since I have had more than one offer at the same time.  I hope to get an offer at least and see what the pay would be.  Could be even more than I am making with the current job.  Would be nice to get a 3 year commitment or more.  I understand about the division being wipped out the last school I was at closed completely.

That is true thanks.  I think I will dress in a suit and try to think of some good questions to ask.

Will the teaching position pay enough to enable you to continue your lifestyle as it currently is? Which position seems the most secure? Can you rent your house out for a while until you see how the other job would work out?

UPDATE!

I went to the college for the interview.  I had 4 people on the hiring board.  It went well.  The job does not start till Aug though.  Seems they were impressed with what I had to offer and say.

Well I say you have started to settle down in the area. A college teacher makes enough to live on in the area you chose. Just dont confuse and hurt the neighbors.  Family ties are tight.  If you go on  the road then run and run fast. Only you can make the right decision with what you have going on around you. Everyone here doesnt know all that is involved. At your age, you can chase a dollar or find a place to call home.

Just got three e-mails about going back to Iraq for another year.  Will have to see what is offered and if it would be worth it or not.  Think  I will stay with what job I have now.  Gordon
