Is my car considered "rusty"?
« on: May 07, 2009 - 02:09:14 PM »
Some guy has been interested in buying my car for a while now. I am wanting a '71 challenger, and have to sell this one first. He has requested tons of pics to which I obliged. After months he has decided that my car is "too rusty". Educate me; here are some pics of the undercarriage. Is it rusty? Do I need to reevaluate?    :feedback:

Looks solid to me.  Has the potential buyer seen it in person?  If not, he really has no basis for saying that, at least based on those pictures.  The only thing I see that is kind of iffy is the exhaust, but even that I'm sure is just surface rust.  He's probably just trying to get you to come down on your price.  If you have no problem selling it for a little less, throw him another number and see what he says.

I don't see rust above what would be considered normal.....how are your rear quarters & trunk....1st areas to go bad usually.

New quarters; I cut all of the rust out during the restoration and replaced with new metal. The only filler is in the weld seams. The exhaust is new too.  He probably was trying to rob me. I was about to sell for 15,500; but I missed the 71 car by waiting on the cash from him. thanks   :clapping:

I think he was just looking for a way to back out of the deal.  It looks like a typical, very clean driver and the under body usually gets blasted with road grime and debris first and that's all I'm really seeing.  Sure, parts are eventually going to get a little surface rust here and there over time, but I wouldn't go so far as to say your car is rusty. :2thumbs:

Your car looks fine, IMO.   Not rusty.

IMO, it it took him "months" to make up his mind on this car and his conclusion is that it's too rusty, I don't think he was a serious buyer so don't take him too seriously.  Especially if you put your car on craigslist.  There's a lot of people with too much time on their hands just yanking other people's chain there when it comes to cars.

Your car looks really good.  Surface rust on things are normal.

looks to be in pretty good shape under there. Move on to the next buyer. sometimes people bite off more than they can chew!
it's aggravating,but a reality.

Sometimes it's easier to make an excuse rather than just say, "I have changed my mind, I can't afford it, or my wife told me NO."  Your car doesn't look bad at all for a driver.  Besides, this is rusty!

Definitely sounds like a convenient excuse for not buying your car.

Looks fine to me.

Is it a matching #'s 340 car? Not to sound harsh, but if it's not, $15.5 might be a little high in these rough times.
