Rear Valence Center Attachment
« on: May 09, 2009 - 10:59:10 AM »
I need the plastic insert that fits in the tail panel for the center support bracket. Does anyone know if it is the same as the ones on license plate attachment?

 Thanks

There isn't one. The bracket attaches with a pair of screws dirrectly into the metal.

Thanks guys. I finally sprang for new bumper guards today to fill the voids behind the shackles. When they arrive I'll install em, along with resetting the valence.

What brand bumper guards did you buy?   Let us know how you like the quality and fit.

Ordered them from YO along with a couple other small items.  :misbehaving:   I'll let you know how they fit.

Looking ahead, still need the two bolts thru the bracket and bumper. Any idea of the size/length/washers etc...?

Mine are sheet metal screws, but I think I'll replace them with bolts/washers as you mentioned.   I'm guessing the bolts would be 1/8 or 3/16 diameter at most, and total length of 1 or 1 1/4 inch would work, even with two washers and self locking nuts.  The valance bracket is thin sheet metal, and so is the panel that it attaches to below the taillights.

The parts came in yesterday so I did a quick check on the fit.

The lower brackets which came with the car seem to far out.

Question; do these look like original 70 Challenger BG brackets and are they slotted at the frame mounts? If so, I'm not sure there is enough play to slide them forward so everything lines up.  :clueless:

Hmm, I have to think your fit is pretty darned close if not correct. This is the best pic I have on my computer, but you can see my bumperettes extend outward beyond the valence panel.

Thanks for the picture Mike. The main problem is the mounting holes on the new guards were about 3/4" too far apart so I sent them back. I bought a new set from another distrubutor (same supplier AMD) but they are too far apart also. I am wondering if it's my car or their parts that are the problem.

Does anyone have an original set laying around they could measure?

I contacted AMD and they said I am missing an (original) adapter. Here is a diagram they sent. Any ideas please.  :1zhelp:

I think that adapter is what holds it to the bumper itself.  I don't have the other "L" shaped part on my car.

I think you are correct. My take is the adaptor fits behind the bumper to keep it from deforming when tightened.

Try and get the bumper and bumperettes on without the valence in and then test fit the valence and adjust the bumperettes for final location.  I tried to adjust the bumperettes since they move L+R a bit on the bumper with the valence in what a pita.

I don't mean to stir the pot, but 70 cars did not have the big center bracket. There should be two brackets that attach to the rear panel, then the valance bolts to them. AMD is now repopping them.
