Plastic slider in cpnsole shifter bezel...removable?
« on: May 09, 2009 - 02:21:20 PM »
Does anyone know if the sliding piece of plastic that indicates the gear selection on a console can be removed, without messing up either the plastic part or the bezel, from the bezel?

you have to cut the rivits & split the bezel apart to get it out

are you trying to clean it?

Tom

Maybe a good dousing with a cleaning product will work for you and some compressed air.

I got the repop bezel and it screws back on.

 :iagree:
It is money well spent replacing the bezel. They always pitted and it will make the console pop.

Tom, maybe you could post a picture of yours with that custom console plate insert, too. That insert is way over the top!  :2thumbs:

Yeah, the situation is this:

The chrome bezel on my car currently is "ok"......a little scratching and some pitting....the plastic insert is ok as far as the indicator part goes, but the hole is broken out so it doesnt stay with the shifter.....

I purchased a shifter setup hoping to see the bezel and plastic from it as a unit but it turns out that the bezel is way worse than mine...(note to self: ask lots of questions, know that chrome doesn't show up in pictures and realzie that everyone's definition of "showcar" is different)......the plastic is in better shape though so would like to use that part from the setup I bought....

I was wondering if good ole JB Weld could be used to put the halves back together.....

Ok, just saw the pics you just posted.....what do the screws screw into???  Hard to tell in the pics....

Where did you buy the repop bezel??

I got the bezel from mopardave here on the site.

The screws are just into the back of the bezel.

You may be able to drill and tap the original with some patience.  You have to drill the rivits out anyways to take the halves apart.
