1970 340 cuda - original paint survivor
« on: May 12, 2009 - 02:06:29 AM »
This sublime green Texas cuda has been off the road since 1979 and needs a mechanical rebuild to get it back on the road. The matching numbers motor was pulled, disassembled and stored indoors. Original automatic tranny is still intact. The car has very solid rust-free floors, frame rails, fenders, doors and rockers, but has rust around the rear window which led to a rusted out trunk pan and right lower quarter (both trunk drop-offs and frame rails are still mazingly rust free).

The cuda is documented by the original fender tag and buildsheet (which is still intact under the rear seat). The Fender Tag decodes as follows:
E55 340 - 4 Barrel (6 - Barrel w/ A53 Code)
D32 H-D A-727 TorqueFlite Trans / Some Years A-998
BS23 Plymouth Barracuda - Special - 2 door hardtop

The current mileage is 92,454.8 miles, and the sublime green paint is still the original factory paint.  I had planned on preserving it as a survivor and making it into a presentable driver.  I would be prepared to sell it for $15,000.00.   The car is located in SW Utah.

I can be reached at 403-803-3879 or Helmute@telus.blackberry.net

Additional photos are available upon request, but serious inquiries only please.

I bet that is just a glitch in the multiple year online decoder the guy used. Pretty cool car, mine looked a lot like it only no luggage rack and a hockey stick stripe.

Thanks guys... she could be sitting on your driveway!   Call me.

IMHO, a survivor is an unrestored original car that has escaped the hands of those that would like to take it apart and "restore" it.  I know she's not in show condition, but very well preserved!!

Perhaps, a few more photos...

I think it was an even better price before the flip, but looks like it would be a nice car!

still though, nice cuda!  And this unnamed guy can do whatever he wants

I think it was an even better price before the flip, but looks like it would be a nice car!

I bought this 'cuda on impulse... because I have a soft spot for original paint cars and I think I need to save them all.  I've never had a mopar in my garage (only GM muscle), so when I saw this 'cuda on Craigslist I couldn't help myself.  The car is still located in Utah where I bought it, and I've been trying to get it shipped up to Montana where I can bring it home across the Canadian border.   I've found that nobody will transport a non-running car across the snow-covered Montana mountain roads until late spring.

I was planning to freshen up the motor and put it together looking all original like the outside of the car.  I've since found that 'cuda parts aren't easy to find... my stash of GM parts aren't going to do me any good in this case.  I need a good driver quality front bumper, road lights, 340 air cleaner, rad, shroud, and I'm sure quite a few brackets and items under the hood to put the motor back together.

With all the other projects I've got on the go (including my 6 & 8 year olds), I'm suddenly realizing that my buying impulse has caused me some unwanted stress.  Don't ask me where I'm going to keep her because the garage is full already.  If I don't sell her before I line up a transporter in the next week or two,  I'm pulling this ad and placing a parts wanted ad.  If it comes to that, I'll be looking for some resources and good advice too.

Thanks in advance guys!

Don't get me wrong, I didn't mean anything bad by my post, you're welcome to do what you want with the car and I wish you good luck in selling it.  I think it's a good price, and I think a sublime, small block A/C Cuda would be a great car to have, especially with the heat down here in Florida!  You should get it back on the road, it will make your GM collection start to seem boring!

I've got a 71 Challenger R/T shaker car that needs done and I'm at a similar point with it, trying to decide to get serious about starting on it or letting it go.  I think you'll find the parts you need pretty easily if you decide to keep it.

Pretty sure, I inquired about the car, I considered buying the car myself, but I too eventually realized I don't need another car..lol.
