I read the other post on Dash VIN Tag.

I have had my car for some 20+ years, just last year replaced my dash with a crack free dash. The new dash has a VIN tag, and on my old one I removed the tag and keep it in my glove box.

Now, what are your thoughts on legality?

  I'm in the same boat.  I removed mine from the old pad and was going to glue it onto the new dash, but I suppose that's illegal.

I am curious also as I'm sure that's how mine disappeared. Why did Dodge attach the VIN tag to the dash pad and not a solid structure under the dash pad? Sure seems short sighted on their part. Dash pads deteriorate and get replaced all the time. Just seems like a recipe for disaster to me.
Don't look back, I might be gaining on you.

I don't know, it the right vin tag for the car, and been titled as such, just now it's loose.

I would take the "new" vin tag off of your pad and install your real vin tag. You can buy the correct rivets or some people just cut the heads off their old rivets and glue them on the new pad.

I just glued my VIN on the new dashpad. I'll be darned if I'm paying $50 for rivets.   :eek7:

mek get the rivets 50.00 is much less than dmv will charge you to install them . if your car is ever misplaced or towed its almost a sure thing you will get your car back after an exhausted search and tear down and many days impounded . my dads company truck was stolen many years back it had been a roll over and a new cab was issued by the insurance co .the body shop didnt use the proper rivets and the truck was held for 27 working days .and guess who paid the storage... yep it was dad . back in the 80s we could have had the 4 rivets from gm at a cost of 12.00 bucks and a vin check along with a clear title .  :)

So does that mean all VIN rivets sold today are illegal, or were these guys just not authorized to be selling them?
