With the adapter theory blown apart, I went junk yarding and picked up a set of Corboba spindles and caliper brackets (the rusty ones) from a 75 Cordoba vin #S for $90.00

Bryan was helpful to me on PM's back and forth to me on these. I wanted to show the differences and what Bryan sent me:

The Cordoba spindles would work fine for you, they are slightly taller which does slightly alter the suspension geometry, but its not enough to worry about and its actually advantageous from a handling standpoint. With 1" torsion bars you should still be able to use the torsion bar adjustors to put your car at the appropriate height. It will lose a little adjustability, but you'd only notice if you're car is already lowered as low as it'll go.

Will I require using just the Corboba calipers or can I still keep using my original 71 calipers? The notched area on the back of each spindle are different from each other. What is that extra hole used for on the E body spindle for?

Mike-

I believe the "extra hole" really is just extra, my Magnumforce spindles don't have it either. Your calipers will work just fine, providing they're the same type as the Cordoba. Ma Mopar made two (well more, but for our application 2) types of calipers, the pin type and the slider type. If the Cordoba caliper brackets are the pin type, you're probably in luck as that's what most of the E-body's had. If it had the slider type, you'll need a set of calipers off an A or B body. The calipers are basically the same for each type, just the mounting is different. The slider kind is a slightly stronger design, and is preferred by the racer types, but its unlikely to make any difference at all on a street car.

Here's a picture of my spindles (no extra hole!) and a set of pin type 11 3/4" rotor caliper brackets...

This is a picture of the slider type

The calipers that were on the Cordoba were pin types so it sounds like I'll be OK then.

I haven't been able to do a mock up yet on how they fit. The Cordoba calipers had a bigger piston than the 70-71 OE calipers. I was going to grab them too but then I noticed they're a block line fit to caliper instead. I could always get those later at auto parts store in necessary.

I am but haven't bought em just yet. But I plan to.
So my original calipers should go on them right?

Calipers are OK it's the caliper adapter found on 78-up(I believe) that make it work.

Yeah the calipers can be kept the same as long as you get the right caliper brackets. For the 11.75" rotors only the rotor and the caliper bracket have to change. That article is pretty handy! I know I referred to a few times trying to figure out my set up.

I'm pretty sure I have the right ones.
I might be mistaken but they look dead on to these.

Just measure the ones you have, the 10.87 and 11.75 caliper brackets looks identical to each other, the measurements are obviously different but its hard to tell which ones are which unless you measure. In pictures its about impossible to tell unless you can read the casting #. That article lists the measurements of both types of brackets.

Why all the trouble? I got my rotors at Autozone for like $65 a piece. 1971 disc brakes.

I want 11.75's.

Here it is standing up ruler against. So maybe it is the right one.

Slider adapter are also made for each of the two rotor sizes. Measure from the center of the mounting hole to a flat surface. If it’s 3-1/4", it fits the small rotors, 3-5/8" fit the biggies.

Mike-

It looks like you have the pin type caliper brackets (should be 4 holes in each bracket), those have to be measured from center to center from the mounting hole to the "pin" hole. Only the slider type gets measured from a flat surface to the center of the mounting hole. Based on this picture, I'd say you have regular 10.87" brackets, that measurement looks a lot more like 3 1/8" than 3 1/2"...

FYI, the early rotors are Autozone are up to about $80 each now ( I bought a set a few months ago). You can get the 11.75" rotors on eBay for $120...

Thanks for all the info Bryan.
I was hoping they were bigger but I had doubts. If I don't find them, then I'll just get the smaller rotors.
