    I just read this article and I thought it was so worth sharing I had to post it.
    If you're planning on buying rotors this info could save you up to 200 dollars.

    If you go to an auto parts store to price a pair of E body disc brake rotors, you're going to find out it's gonna run you over 300 bucks for the pair. Now there's a company that has a conversion out so you can take low cost Aspen OE rotors and convert them onto your E body OE spindles...

    Scarebird Classic brakes (www.scarebird.com), a long time supplier of dirt cheap brake swap components, now offers a set of inexpensive bearing spacers that allow this conversion. Then all you need besides the late rotors, are the late inner bearings (use Timken) and replace the cups too.

    I plan to do this to mine now that I just found this out.
    Anyone do this? Look how cheap Aspen OE rotors are!

    They replied to me what the conversion cost is:

    easy - we sell a set of bushings, 45 dollars shiped to US, that adapt the inner bearing of the Aspen to the 70-74 spindle.

    That's what I recall that the Cordoba rotors will fit the 73-up e body spindles.
    But I'm running 70-71 spindles.

    The ad clearly said putting Aspen/Diplomat rotors on an E body.

    So next question (I'll research it and find out) What is O.D. on Aspen rotors vs. OE    E body rotors vs. Cordoba's. Plus any other variances to compare.

    Would work fine if you get caliper adapters & calipers for the 78-11.75 setup but the scarebird adapter is for DRUM spindles.

    As for sizes I go to http://www.napaonline.com NAPA gives more info than others
    They list '78 Aspen rotors as 10.97"  the same as other '73-'77 Mopars
                 '78 Cordoba & Charger rotors as 11.75"

    Aspen rotors are 10.87. However, the bearing spacer will also work for the big bearing Cordoba rotors as well.

    However, if you shop around, you can get Aspen spindles for $50 or less a set and not have to worry about the bearing spacer, get less weight, better SAI, quicker return to center, and reduced body roll all for that price.

    OK then here’s my situation:
    Please confirm the following:
    Currently, I have 71 Disc brake spindles with OEM disc brakes to be used.
    So then I assume then this kit is to adapt the Aspen rotors to work on the 71 disc brake spindles.
    That I would then need to install this kit into the Aspen rotors.
    This kit is for either disc brake or drum spindles. Either choice I could order. Is that correct?

    The reply to me:
    Our bushing will adapt A6 spindles to A17 bearings.  If this is an B or E body it will work.

    Like Tony mentioned I wouldn't mess with the spacers, the later spindles are easy enough to find. Any '73 up spindle should work, and as Tony mentions the F/M body stuff has a little taller spindle so it alters geometry a little. You shouldn't have any issues finding a set of spindles for close to what the conversion spacers will cost you. They you can get the larger 11.75" caliper brackets and put the later 11.75" rotors on for a brake upgrade. A lot of brake swap info here...

    The A6 and A17 are industry bearing numbers. You should be able to go in to any parts store and ask for an A6 or A17 bearing and get that bearing irregardless of what the manufacturer's part number is.

    I agree with 72bluNblu on the spindle swap, the F/M spindles are easy to find and it gives you the ability to upgrade to the 11.75 rotors. When I had the 392 in my Cuda (700+ lbs.) I had to do a panic stop once with the smaller rotors still on the car. I was NOT impressed to say the least! I swapped the spindles and caliper brackets and put the 11.75 rotors on and saw a BIG improvement!

     Yes, the 11.75" rotors are very nice. The first thing I noticed is that it balanced out my braking front to rear, no more locking the rears first. Much more positive feeling stops.  ;D

    And the bearing spacer thing just seems like a bad idea to me. I'm sure they work, but what happens if they spin? Can't be good for the spindle. I can see why that shouldn't happen (bearing resistance should be low enough that it won't put enough force on the spacer to spin it), but I don't see why it can't happen (especially if the bearing gets gunked up, or set with too much pre-load). It would obviously depend on how tight a clearance the spacer has to the spindle. Something to think about.

    With the availability of later spindles, I just wouldn't bother with a conversion unless I were going to run BIG brakes, wilwoods etc.

    OK the bearing spacer idea doesn't sound so hot now.
    I'm gonna try to find some 73 up spindles and do it this way instead. Thanks.  :2thumbs:

    I've used the spacers and they work just fine. I did use a version of loctite designed for sleeve applications to hold them secure. In my case it was to adapt rotors to a drum brake spindle using a custom caliper bracket. This is was particular application that an acquaintance of mine wanted which would not have allowed us to use the big bearing disc spindles because he already had brackets made to adapt his drum spindles. On top of the $75 for the spacers and seals, he also incurred a several $100s of costs for making the special brackets, plus another grand for the calipers. Net results was he ended up with a very nice set of six piston Wilwood calipers on some 13" rotors for around $2500. For around $1800 he could have swapped to disc spindles and used an AR Engineering kit for Viper calipers and got 13" rotors without all the fabriaction work and adapting. But to each his own.
