here is the complete list. click on the list of dealers. PDF file. Being CJ only We were worried as well, We were also surprised to see who was who on the list. I am just glad we got the pardon from the big house. goes to show no matter how big you are or advertise your not excluded, on invinsable.

It is a dark day for Chrysler dealerships most of us have been around since the 60's and average about 80 to 120 employees per dealer. I have been with my dealer for 22 years now. I couldn't imagine doing something else. GM dealers are going to have a very rough road as well very soon.

I read where Chrysler wants its dealers to carry Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep, and was going to make that one factor in deciding which dealers to close. They also looked at sales volume and proximity to other C/D/J dealers. I'm sure they have been working on this for some time, and that there was nothing random or haphazard about their choices.

Hopefully, this will make them stronger and better able to weather this downturn.

Chrysler has been working on consolidation since the mid 90's and failed at it, Daimler tried to do the same and failed. The barking dogs tried and look where we are now. IN a forced downsizing by bankruptcy . This is the only way they could get the deaelr count down and get the CJD under one roof.

I was surprised to learn that the largest Dodge dealer in my area (Folsom Lake Dodge) is on the list - they have almost 700 new cars in inventory - yikes!

It's not Folsom Lake Dodge going away, It's People's Chrysler in Folsom Lake that is going away. Too bad though the customer service at Folsom Lake sucks. I'll never do business with them.

I don’t understand how less dealerships will make Chrysler or gm for that matter any stronger or more profitable?  :dunno:
It’s not like they own them or give the dealers money it’s the other way around isn’t it?  :clueless:

Unless now they can raise the prices and with less competition among the same car company\ dealers less incentive = no competition higher prices on newer cars.  :faint:

I heard on the news that Chrysler said that 50% of dealerships account for 90% of the sales.  Thats crazy!  No wonder they're getting rid of them.

some of the dealers should not have been in business to begin with, some dealers are in the used car business not new, some are not profitable, some have just poor business models, low customer retentions not just in sales but in service. What algorithm chrysler and Fiat used, we will probably never know. but it is what it is now. Yes the dealer don't cost corporate money but they still have to work together and those dealers that did get cut in some way did their own thing for to long. brand consolidation is the focus now getting all 3 under one roof is the plan.  It is still hard to see fellow friends not moving on.

They are closing one in our county, and of course it is the best, not the biggest but better of the two dealerships. Lahm is totally Chrysler, the other one also sells Fords  :clueless:  Let me share a couple quotes from the owner of the affected dealership.:  "We didn't fail, Chrysler failed us."........................."The dealers delt with the cards they were given - products, design, pricing and perceived quality was never ours to decide. Corporate marketing never sent us a survey on what customers liked and what they didn't. The dealers never had any real input despite our being the ones on the front lines."  This local dealership opened as  Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth,   in 1930 and adding Jeep later, the owner plans to keep his business open but obviously in a different direction, they want to keep all their employees working.

It looks like northern DE. is lossing zero dealerships.  I am surprised that we didn't lose a dealership.  Between Newark and Wilmington which is just less then 20 miles we have 5-6 dealerships.  I guess they took petty on us since they closed the plant in Newark, DE.  The Durango and Aspen was made there.  It looks like the parts section is still open. We also lost the GM Boxwood plant in Wilmington.

I just read where over half of the dealers Chrysler is closing sell fewer than 100 cars per year! How can a dealership even stay in business selling 8 cars a month?

That's a big part of why they are closing these dealers.  They can hardly survive in a good economy selling so few cars, in a downturn they can't survive.  It makes more sense to have fewer, stronger, and ultimately more profitable dealers strategically placed rather than having a bunch of dealers who can hardly support themselves right next to each other.  And at the company level, supporting those dealers with vehicles, parts, and all the other admin necessities costs quite a bit.
