    is jy9 a rare 74 color?

    im just curious, cause i do like it, and if its not often seen, id paint my car that color. but if its a common animal, im onto b5 true blue.

    Described as Dark Gold...looks Metallic Brown in the pics.... By chance the hood I bought many years ago was that color, I believe. Can't say I've ever seen an E-body in person that color but plenty of C-bodies.

    GY9 is a strange color, I own a 71 GTX that is in GY9, I like the color, it is different.
    All of the pics I post are the same color only under different sunlight conditions, this color changes all day long.

    mine is still in original paint, look at the flakes in this paint, this is really a weird color and most people have never seen it in its glory, outdoors in the sunlight.

    To answer the original post. I do not have 1974 numbers but I doubt it's that rare. Earth tones were big in the '70s, but now everyone has to repaint everything purple or orange so you don't see them anymore.

    JY9 is NOT the same color as all those posting above with the GY9 cars. Too me it looks like there is more brown to it.

    just the shade would have changed between the GY9 and JY9 right. wasnt the first character just the year code for the paint?

    It's the year it was first used. So GY9 was first used in 1971, while JY9 was first used in 1973 (since they skipped over I). So they aren't the same color.

    Kiss, I couldn't agree with you more, GY9 is not the same as JY9, it looks as the green was removed and more of the brown was added.....

     :bigsmile: How about the yellowish white flake color?  It's an earth tone.  Especially up in the north snowy regions...  :thinkerg:
