The beard growing...it's a man thing lool...everyone can grow a beard...well almost over the years been a few players with nothing but fuzz

It's something that the whole team can do...keeps them together...unity...team spirit...male bonding...superstitions factor in to it too...bad luck to shave...

If you notice teams enter the arena in the same order...after games...same order when they slap the goalies pads...in the dressing rooms...play the same music...they won't change anything through the playoffs...it takes a lot to make the playoffs...they got to have something to show for how long they have been hanging in there !!

Some of these beards get really scrappy the longer the team is in the playoffs...that year we went to the final game of the finals...well at the start the guys quite shaving their faces and well we quit shaving our legs loool...gawd was that a long series !!

We have a similar thing in highschool and youth wrestling here in New Mexico. A lot of the teams bleach their hair blonde for the state tournaments.
