Dash Pad Year 1 vs Paddocks
« on: May 16, 2009 - 11:50:17 AM »
Hello, I am trying to buy the dash pad for my 1972 Cuda. I saw that Paddock has it listed for 499.00 and Year 1 for 799.00. Has anyone gotten one from Paddock?  Just kinds find it strange that much price difference. Any suggestions on which to get.
Thanks

Isn't that the same as the Year Ones pads, or have they finally gone to steel?

The one I bought a couple years ago is ABS, but it was a lot cheaper than $799.  I haven't checked them out in a while, but am also curious why such a large difference in price.

Listen, if you ask anyone in the world of restoring muscle cars they 90% of the time always mention Year One as there supplier. They feel that if Y1 sells it, it must be the best there is in parts. i don't have to tell you if it is or isn't I am sure you know. But imagine the guy sitting at home with his kid ready to tackle on a new project and asks his buddy where should I go, the answer is Y1......
Look at interior products, seat covers, who do you think Y1 gets them from?
They did at one time get them from Legendary, and most everyone still thinks they still do but they don't, they come from another vendor that imports them from across the pond a large pond. Why, $$$$$, everyone wants to make more money so they shop around.
Look at the other vendors, they are the same, legendary was buying certain products from REM, no more, they decided to make them, or maybe they say that and get them from across the pond, $$$$$ changes all.

When it comes to dash pads, I would never sell a ABS pad, i don't want the problems, I have enough health problems that this one may or may not put me in the nut house...... sorry for the rant but look at it this way, I cannot quit my fulltime job because I do not make enough money with Nicks Classic Parts, yes i make a profit on the dash pads I sell and it is a very small profit considering what I go through with the manufacture.  Incidentally, it is the same manufacture we all get our pads from and I pay more for my steel core pads that Paddock and Year One pay for their ABS pads....... So who is making the $$$$$$$  can i get off my soapbox now.....  :faint:

I couldn't agree more.  Get your stuff from Nick and rest assured that you are in good hands.  He will go to any extent to make sure you are getting the best parts that he can find.

I suppose you could spend hours on the net trying to find something cheaper or better, but I'll put my money on him.

Not to continue the hijack, but Year One is the Wal Mart of resto suppliers.

hi. I bought a new abs dash on ebay but haven't installed it yet. It is very nice compared to the dashcap I had! My holdup is changing my vin plate (the abs is much thicker than the original metal dash frame). I think the dash is definitely worth the money. the manufacturer is in texas.  UTIMATE RIDES  1-877-dashpad. Buy it now price on ebay was $505 . shipping was slow but they did get it to me. When I get it installed I will let you know how it fits.

I hear a lot of negative about the ABS cores, which very well may be true, but what exactly is it about them that makes them less desirable than a steel core?  Is it durability, look, etc...?

I am at the point in my restoration project where I need to make the "dash" decision as well.  I understand even Legendary is supplying them with ABS cores.  How bad can they be?
