Painting Engine Compartment
« on: May 17, 2009 - 11:50:48 AM »
I'm going to attempt to paint my engine compartment.

Should I go single-stage acrylic or Base/Clear?

The car is going to be a driver, so "show quality" is not a must and YES,  I'm on a tight budget.

Thanks
My name is Steve and I'm addicted to Challengers...

I used a SS Omni and did it myself.  I think about 75 for everything(paint, hardener, reducer, etc), I bought a nice Charcoal Filter mask and a teflon paint suit too.

Nice,
Nothing like a fresh engine compartment.  Looks good Tom.

When you go to paint the rest of the car are you going to do SS or base/clear?  When I debated the same question, most of the feedback I got said paint it however you're going to do the rest of the car.  That way you won't be able to tell the difference.

If you're on a tight budget, I would image that SS would be cheaper just because it's one less thing to buy.

I used single stage in my engine compartment, and it's holding up well. The color is a little off from the BC/CC I used on the body.

Mine is just a bit off as well, but I can touch it up very easily.

:iagree: That's one of the reasons I went with the single stage too!
