Is History Repeating Itself ?
« on: May 17, 2009 - 03:32:14 PM »
Becoming of driving age in the early 70's I can remember driving by new and used car lots and seeing all the Cuda's-Challengers-Superbirds-and all the other Mopar Muscle lined up just waiting for some eager driver to get in. It all disappeared overnight it seems. Now after waiting 37 years to see that sight again I can't help but to think with the way things are going am I going to wake up tomorrow and it is all gone again. Back then I thought it would be like this forever and took it all for granted but I am older and wiser now so I grabed my camera and took a ride to record history before it is all gone again.
What do you all think ? Challenger here to stay or gone for good with the new owners .

History does have a way of repeating. With the Goverments hand in it they will sell the cars the goverment wants us to buy and it not a muscle car.

The Challenger was only going to be produced for five model years and then be gone for good anyway. I feel like they will build them for the full five years.
I think that they may add a two door version to the completely new body style on the next version of the Charger. According to insiders, the new Charger will be a much nicer looking car than the Challenger. We'll see.

These stinky pics I took of the concept Charger at Carlisle in 2004. I LOVED this car. The pics don't do it justice, but I'd love to see this. You can hardly tell it's a 4 door car.

That concept Charger is pretty sharp looking. Looks like an Astin-Martin to me though  :dunno:. I find it hard to believe anyone can build a "much nicer" looking vehicle than the current Challenger in this day and age.

So far as the topic, I think the current Challenger will be built at least a couple more years regardless of who owns it. And I think the current Shelby Mustang will be around for awhile also. The Camaro is new and think of the costs of getting it to production, they too will tough it out a few years. After that, who knows!? :clueless:

In my mind it's as bleak as it's ever been and I see no light at the end of the tunnel.
We have a President that wants us to suffer for carbon use and will never do anything to tap our own gas and oil despite 60% of the people wanting it. Has anybody noticed the price creeping back up? 24 cents a gallon here in Jersey in just a few weeks. :bricks1:

Once we had Ronald Reagan, Bob Hope & Johnny Cash. Now we have Obama, No Hope and No Cash!

...I remember those days too...cruising the lots looking at the hottest cars of the Big 3....soon there will be very few dealers to even buy a car from, let alone window shop

Funny you brought this topic up. I took some pics of the row of Challengers on the lot in Albuquerque this last weekend. I am feeling the pressure to make room to buy one before its too late. I really want one bad. I love the new Charger but would also love to see a new Challenger built of its platform when the time comes.

The Challenger only lasted five years the first time around. They will do well to make it that far this time.
I hate to say it, but that new Camaro looks like it's going to sell real well. That will cut in to Challenger sales for sure.
