Your thoughts on these hood scoops would be appreciated.
« on: May 18, 2009 - 02:39:56 PM »

O.k I’ve finally finished all the hard work on my Chally resto and I’m at the stage of bolting all the bits back on. I’m playing around with a few different looks and I’d like some feedback on these hood scoops. As you can see I’ve polished the outer rim and blacked out the inner part as appose to painting them body colour.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

I like it!  :2thumbs:

Did you paint the inside red, is it a reflector, or......? I thought it was lights at first.

I think if you dig it then go for it. To be honest I dont like scoops painted anything other than body color but thats just me. My brother in law has chrome scoops on his SE Challenger and they do stand out for sure.

It gives some tasteful contrast and goes well with the cars color. My  :2cents:

Looks different, but not for me.  I like the body color.

It is up to you on your own car.  I like the original look the best.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

And I thought I was going to be unique. I've see them painted black on a red car with the hood stripe. When I took mine apart and not being a fan of stripes I sent mine out and had them chromed. The pics aren't great but here it is.

You are unique as far as I am concerned. The car I am talking about has not been on the street since the very early 80's. Custom 70's paint and all lol.

I like 'em.  In the last picture they match the chrome that goes around the outer headlights and the front bumper and it goes well with the DODGE lettering on the hood and the hood pins.  Nice job!   :2thumbs:

Hi, thanks Mike. Its red paint on the trailing edge, you can’t really see the red unless you’re down low looking right into the scoops. I still haven’t got any of the insert thingy’s that screw onto the inside of the scoops yet either.

Thanks all for your input, I’m still not sure if I like em or not yet, (I havn't bolted them down yet) I might try and do a photo shop job on them and see how it looks in body colour.
Cheers

Here's a rough photo shop paint job.
I think I’m starting to lean towards the body colour, it seems to accentuate the hood bulge more with the scoops painted out!

I think it's good to be unique with your modifications.  While I usually would prefer body color here, I don't think it looks bad at all.  It reminds me of nostrils on a ram and coincides with the whole Dodge slogan of "Grab life by the Horns". :2thumbs:
