4 speed hanging up
« on: May 18, 2009 - 04:15:49 PM »
My chally 4-speed got stuck in no man's land again on Saturday in Omaha, it sometimes intermittenly gets stuck in between gears, not really in any of them, seems to happen when shifting out of reverse.  I know I can have hurst rebuild the shifter mechanism for about $100.00 , I have checked the allignment with a drill bit, but could it be the actual linkage and not the shifter?  like I said it doesn't happen alot, but is a real pain when it hangs up

I was having problems with mine before because the crappy trans mount bushing had dropped so far that the shifter rods were hitting the cross brace, making it very difficult to get into gear.

I would start by just removing the shifter & cleaning & greasing it & re-installing it yourself

You might want to try lengthening the reverse rod a turn or 2.  That will help make sure the transmission is out of reverse before the shifter goes throught the gate.

The goal never changes - Stop the 60' timer with your back tires
